Another Bronze for Indian eves, Gold for Las Leonas

Final standings in the Parna 4 Nations Hockey Tournament in Argentina, remained same as in the Buenos Aires tournament, as India beat Ireland 4-1 for Bronze medal while the hosts Las Leonas beat South Africa 2-0 in the Final.

Its revenge time in Paraná (Argentina)

In the 2nd 4 Nations Hockey tournament in Argentina, India took sweet revenge of loss against Ireland (0-1) in the 1st tournament by beating the Irish women 2-1 and will be looking to play in the finals against hosts Argentina who has won their both the matches: against India (3-1) and South Africa (2-1). While, Ireland held South Africa (1-1) in the another match. After resting today, India needs to win against South Africa to be in the finals on Sunday or if they draw, the other finalists will be decided by the second match of Saturday, i.e. Argentina Vs Ireland.

India(W) finish 3rd in 4 Nations Hockey Tournament at Buenos Aires

Deepika scored one for India to equalize the Ireland’s goal scored by Michelle Harvey in 51m through penalty corner to take the match in extra time and win it from there 2-4 on penalty strokes to grab the third position, while the hosts Argentina (the Las Leonas) won the title by beating South 3-1.

All the four teams (India, South Africa, Ireland and hosts Argentina) will be locking horns within a week for the 2nd 4 Nations, to be played from this Wednesday in Parana (Argentina).

Indian Eves Lost to South Africa 2-3 (Half Time 0-3)

Indians came out guns blazing with fast counter attacks in second half after trailing 0-3 at the stroke of half time, but could not manage to cross the line when they lost to Africa women’s team 2-3 in the crucial Four Nations match in Buenos Aires.  Sulette Damons, Liesel Dorothy and Kathleen Taylor scored for South Africa while while Devi Thokchom scored a brace for India.

Looking ahead to the all-important Olympic Qualifier in Delhi in February, the match was a opportunity for both teams to judge their strengths and weaknesses against each. The 12th ranked South Africa and India (13th) have now played four times in the last two years with India winning twice and SA the last two.

India missed some early chances, Captain Ansuta missed, soon after that Rani Rampal shot wide in a set piece in 6th minute but South Africa struck in their first attempt in 9th minute through Damons.Then both the sides missed some couple of chances, but it was South Africa who found the target again thorough Dorothy’s deflection on captain Marsh Marescia’s pass in 16th minute. India lost to Ireland 0-1 in Women’s Four Nations Tournament at Buenos Aires

Indian-Women's-Team-in-Argentina-7Indian women’s hockey team is playing first of two Four Nations Tournament in Argentina. After giving up in a tough fight against hosts and world champions Argentine women’s team (the Las Leonas), Indian eves lost their second match against lower ranked Irish women (0-1) in Buenos Aires. The Europeans earned a total of seven penalty corners and Cliodhna Sargent’s direct shot found the net in 43rd minute through one of them.

In the other game of the day, hosts Argentina thrashed South Africa 4-1 to stay unbeaten in the tournament and reach the finals. India, the only team in the tournament who are yet to win a game, will take on South Africa ( at 11:30 PM (IST) on 10th Dec) who are just one spot above India in ranking and are the biggest hurdle for Indians eves to book the tickets for London Olympics. While in the second match of the day, world #2 Argentina will play Ireland.

India 2 Argentina 3 in Women’s Four Nations Tournament at Buenos Aires

With a goals Rosario Luchetti and a brace from Noel Barrionuevo Argentina beat India by 3 to 2 in their first match of the Four Nations Tournament at Buenos Aires, while Jaspreet Kaur and Ritu Rani scored for India in 18th and 25th Minute respectively.

Indian-Women's-Team-in-Argentina-3It was Argentina who struck the first blow in the first minute of the match, Rosario Luchetti (1′) found the net after penetration of Sofia Maccari. And hosts Las Leonas generated more risk for the visitors, especially through the short corners. Precisely in this way, it was Noel Barrionuevo (16′) that made ??it 2-0. Within 2 minutes, Indians struck back in their first corner through Jaspreet Kaur. Then, Ritu Rani (25′), too short, ensured to equalize the scores.

The hosts were looking dangerous but Indian goalie deflected Srouga Daniela’s powerful shot, eventually, Barrionuevo (56′) scored for Las Leonas in 56th minute to take lead and they kept possession to deny any chance to equalize for India.

In the other match of the day, South Africa beat Ireland 2-0. India will play Ireland at 11:30 PM (IST) in first match of 8th December, while hosts will take on South Africa in the second match.
