Indian Junior Women’s Hockey team defeated Spain 4-2 in quarter final of ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup 2013 being played at Warsteiner Hockey Park in Mönchengladbach (Germany). In the semi finals to be played tomorrow, India will face the winner of quarter final between Netherlands and South Africa.
It was Spain who were on target first, when they converted a penalty corner through Xantal Gine in 7th minute, while India responded through Monika within three minutes to restore parity.
With 5 minutes remaining to half time, the Spanish side was ahead once again, this time through field goal from their Captain Berta Bonastre, but India responded to Spain’s goal in fashion, when Navneet Kaur found the target on reverse stick shot to level the scores 2nd time in the match, with just a minute remaining to breather. 30 June 2013: Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team for the FIH Hockey Junior World Cup Women 2013 is announced. The tournament will be played at Mönchengladbach in Germany from 27 July-4 August 2013.

Defender Sushila Chanu will lead the team while Forward Rani Rampal will be deputy to her. The Indian team will depart for Germany on 15 July 2013 and will be playing four warm-up games ahead of their World Cup campaign on 27 July. India will play their first warm-up game against Belgium on 17 July followed by Netherlands on 19 July, South Africa on 21 July and 24 July. Continue reading →
