The Victorian Women have defeated NSW in the Grand Final of today’s Australian Hockey League Grand Final and crowned the 2012 Champions.
Victoria’s last Championship title was won back in 2003. The new crop of youth set the tone throughout the tournament with high intensity hockey.

Although QLD finished in first place at the end of the Qualifying rounds, 4 placed NSW, did not hold any fears coming into this Semi Final, after defeating the Scorchers 1-0 in Round 5. This was QLD’s only loss and the only match where they were held scoreless.
In the opening minutes of this semi final, you could see that this was going to be another tight contest. NSW won a penalty corner in the 28 minute and Georgina Morgan converted a well executed drag flick past QLD goalkeeper Audrey Smith. QLD has topped the Women’s AHL points table after the final qualification matches. WA claimed second spot on the ladder with VIC and NSW finishing third and fourth respectively. With tomorrow being a rest day, semi final action hits-off on Friday from perth Hockey Stadium with QLD v NSW in semi final one and WA v VIC in semi final two.
In the Match of the day, in the final qualifying round for the women’s Australian Hockey League at Perth Hockey Stadium, 2nd placed WA Diamonds squared off against 3 Placed Vic Vipers in what was set to be a crucial game in deciding final seeding’s for the semi finals. WA would only require a draw to secure 2 spot, whereas a loss could see them drop to third, while the Vipers would be looking for a win, to finish in 2 place, but a loss could see them drop to fourth.
