New Delhi, December 15: Hockey India League is pleased to announce three times FIH World Player of the Year Teun de Nooijer as its third Brand Ambassador for the Hockey India League due to start in January 2013.

NEW DELHI, November 29: Hockey India League has named its Brand Ambassadors Sardar Singh (India) and Jamie Dwyer (Australia) as well as the world’s most capped player Teun de Nooijer (the Netherlands), Germany’s double Olympic gold medallist Moritz Fürste and Indians Sandeep Singh and SV Sunil as Marquee Players for the December 16 Hockey India League Auction.

Dutch Midfielder Teun de Nooijer who made his debut in 1994 against New Zealand has always been a key member of the Dutch team that participated in 4 Olympic Games including Atlanta 1996 (Gold), Sydney 2000 (Gold), Athens 2004 (Silver) and London 2012 (Silver) with three World Cups including Utrecht 1998 (Gold), Kuala Lumpur 2006 (Bronze) and New Delhi (Bronze). Having earned FIH World Player of the year award in 2003, 2005 and 2006 Teun de Nooijer participated in as many as nine Champions Trophy tournaments since 2000.
Floris Evers, skipper of the Silver medal winning Netheralands team during Olympic Games in London this year is also set to join the league. With 230 caps, the 29 year old Floris Evers has a vast experience in the dutch side. He has been key member of the Netherlands team that won silver medal during Athens Olympic Games 2004. Legendary Teun de NOOIJER played his 450th international game and scored the game-winning goal (2nd Dutch goal of match) to give a 3-1 win over defending champions Germany to take his team to 7th consecutive semi-final of the Olympics. Chritopher ZELLER opened the account on the score sheet by converting a Penalty Corner for the defending champions in 3rd minute. de VOOGD Bob scored a field to draw parity 1-1.
The legendary Teun de NOOIJER scored in the opening minute of 2nd half to make it 2-1 in favor of the Dutch and 5 minutes later van der WEERDEN Mink scored on PC to double the lead for Netherlands. Germany’s effort to make an impact and score goal to reduce margin fell short and Netherlands won it 3-1 to reach semi-finals, while Germany will be in top four if Netherland do not lose to Korea.
Later in the evening, backed by home crowd the Great Britain Men’s Hockey team staged one of the biggest turn around in London 2012. The hosts Great Britain came from behind (0-2 trailing at half-time and 0-3 till 46th minute) to hold world champions Australia 3-3 to split the points. While Pakistan and Spain defeated South Africa (5-4) and Argentina (3-1) to wide open the Pool A for semi-finals. Now the matches of Australia vs Pakistan and Spain vs Great Britain are like quarterfinals, winner will be through to semi-final. In case of a draw or two the situation could be different.
