After a neck-to-neck tussle between the two best teams of the 5th Hockey India Sub-Junior Women National Championship 2015, Hockey Punjab outplayed Hockey Jharkhand by a narrow margin of 3-2 in the final match and clinched the title in Ranchi today. In the 3rd/4thPosition match, Hockey Odisha defeated Hockey Haryana by 5-2 and claimed the 3rd Position in the Hockey India National Championship.
In B-Division, Hockey Mizoram claimed the champions tag by defeating Hockey Patiala 8-0. Whereas, Chandigarh Olympic Association settled at the third position post a wonderful victory in the hard-line match against Hockey Bhopal by 14-0. Continue reading →
The hosts and dates for Hockey India National Championship 2013 has been announced for both men and women in the various age categories of senior, junior and sub-junior. Players born after 1 January 1994 and 1 January 1997 will be eligible for Junior and Sub-Junior Nationals respectively.

Hockey India provides a financial grant to support the hosts of National Championships in various categories. Hockey India has announced a total grant of Rs. 1.01 Crores for 2013 editions.
The Senior and Junior National Championships in Men’s category will be played at Pune (Maharashtra) and Rohtak (Haryana) respectively and they will get a grant of Rs. 20 Lakhs and Rs. 17 Lakhs respectively. The Junior and Senior Women’s National Championships will be hosted by Ranchi (Jharkhand) and Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) respectively, with the aid of Rs. 15 Lakhs and Rs. 18 Lakhs from Hockey India. Hockey action under flood lights, Kookaburra balls in use, doctors/physios & ambulance on the sidelines, with a glittering LED Screen showing live action for the audience, a creative and huge scoreboard, DJ playing music after every goal, a band performing during break, guests being escorted by marching Jawans, a Checkered back drop for giving away Man of the Match after every game, a specially designed Souvenir release, firecrackers and the National Anthem sung in chorus by everyone present, etc are rarest of sights in India. Few of these happens in tournaments like WSH or IPL, but its heartening to see all of them being done at an Inter School Hockey Tournament in Bengaluru.

The sight at Bangalore’s only Hockey Stadium aka Shantinagar Hockey Stadium, was no less than an international level tournament all at a school tournament i.e. South United-JFHA Inter School Hockey Tournament. The tournament is organized by Jude Felix Hockey Academy every year, and the 2nd (2012) edition of tournament was sponsored by South United FC (a sports venture of Lokko Sports Pvt Ltd). The stage for the Grand Finale of the South United-JFHA Inter School Hockey Tournament is all set-up. RDT Inclusive High School, Anantapur will take on Rashtriya Military School, Bangalore in the summit clash.

On the third day of the tournament, RDT Inclusive High School won both their matches against Maria Niketan and Sports School Kudige, while Rashtriya Military School defeated Maria Niketan School to reach the finals. In the other match of the evening, Sports School Kudige won against Bishop Cotton School and finished at third place in the table followed by Bishop Cotton and Maria Niketan at 4th and 5th place. After the 2nd day of the South United-JFHA Inter School Hockey Tournament, defending Champions St Josesh’s Indian High School are on the top of the table with 10 points from 4 matches, followed by Rashtriya Military School (7 points from 3 matches) on 2nd spot and RDT Inclusive High School, Anantapur on 3rd spot with 5 points from 3 matches.

With RDT and Military School having two matches on the 3rd and last day of league stage, any two teams of top 3 in table stand a chance to reach the finals and it might boil down to the last league match between St. Joseph’s Indian High School and Rashtriya Military school. Continue reading →
On the first day of the South United-JFHA Inter School Hockey Tournament, Rashtriya Military School and St Josesh’s High School earned 4 points from a win and a draw of two matches, while Sports School Kudige won the only match they played today. The runners-up of 1st edition of the tournament RDT Inclusive High School, Anantapur held defending champions SJIHS and another title contender Rashtriya Military school for draws.

The tournament was declared open by Fr V.M Gregory (Director St Mary’s Orphanage & Principal Maria Niketan High School) in a small but well organized opening ceremony, where Mr. Manuel Fredricks, Former Indian Goal Keeper & Munich Olympics Bronze Medalist, was the Guest of Honor.
Olympian Sabu Varkey and master Coach PA Raphael chose the “Man of the Match” for each match.
