The India Women Hockey Team is all set to leave for Spain to play matches at Valencia from 10 – 24 February 2015. The preparatory camp for the tour had commenced on 10 January 2015 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Delhi. The series is in preparation for the FIH World League Round 2, to be held in New Delhi from 7 – 15 March, 2015. The team will be led by Captain Ritu Rani and Deepika will be the Vice-Captain.
During the fifteen day tour, the Indian team will be playing two matches with Spain on 14th and 16th February, followed by two with Dutch hockey clubs, GCHC (19th February) and HDM (20th February). Two matches are also slated to be played with Germany (22nd and 23rd February) giving the team a holistic experience of working against varied strategies. This camp is in preparations of Indian team for the Test Matches in Valencia, Spain scheduled to be held from 10-24 February 2015 and the FIH World League Round 2 to be held in New Delhi from 7-15 March 2015.
The 24-member Women Team are part of this camp for training of the players before facing 14th-ranked Spain team in Valencia. The Black Sticks Men have defeated Spain 4-1 in a penalty shoot-out to secure seventh place at the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 in The Hague. While Belgium beat London Olympics Gold Medalists Germany 4-2 to take 5th place.

Chritopher Zeller gave lead to Germans in 18th minute, but Tom Boon and Tanguy Cosynus scored penalty corner goals in 25th and 40th minutes to earn lead for Belgium. German Florian Fuchs restored the parity in 56th minute, only to go down again in 59th minute when Floren van Aubel found the target. Evergreen Sebastian Dockier scored one more for Belgium to ensure the 5th place for his team.
In 7th place match, Kane Russell scored for the Kiwis just out from halftime before Spain equalised late in the second half to take the 7th/8th classification playoff to a one-on-one penalty shoot-out. Continue reading →
England are through to the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 Semi-Final after a nail-biting 3-2 victory over rivals Belgium and finished 2nd in Pool A behind the defending World Champions Australia and ahead of Belgium (3rd), Spain (4th), India (5th) and Malaysia (6th) in the points table.

It was the final group game in Pool A and England needed the win to take the three points and steal second place from the Red Lions who only needed a draw to go through. A ferocious opening 25 minutes in which they scored four unanswered goals saw the Kookaburras progress to the semi-finals of the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 with a 100% record after beating India 4-0 to top Pool A with a maximum 15 points.

Later in the day, Spain defeated Malaysia by 5-2 to move to the 4th place in pool standings ahead of India and Malaysia. This means Spain will play for 7th position, India for 9th place, while Malaysia will play to avoid last position in the quadrennial tournament.
Kieran Govers’ third minute opener gave the Australian men the perfect start with Chris Ciriello doubling the advantage from a penalty corner in the 16th minute, firing his 80th goal for his country.
21 year old Jeremy Hayward made it 3-0 when he flicked home a rebound at a penalty corner, coolly slotting the ball over the shoulder of goalkeeper Sreejesh, who would go on to make a string of outstanding saves in the second half. With this win India has added 3 more points in its favour on the points table and which takes them on the 4th position in Pool A with total 4 points. Australia outclassed England with 5-0 victory, while Belgium defeated Spain 5-2 to sit on top two positions of Pool A Standings. Followed by England, India, Spain and Malaysia at 3rd, 4th, 5th and last place.
