Ireland and India head to Rotterdam for Hockey World League Semi Finals

Both India and Ireland, who qualified for the FIH World League Semi-Finals through Hockey World League 2 New Delhi in February 2013, will travel to Rotterdam, Netherlands from 13th – 23rd June 2013 .

Final line-up announced for Investec World League in London

11 March 2013:  Today, the FIH announced the line-up for the women’s Hockey World League Semi Final tournaments to be held in London and Rotterdam in June, following the completion of the women’s Hockey World League Round 2 tournaments.

England, Argentina, Australia and China are the four teams which automatically qualified for the Investec World League Semi Final in London, thanks their FIH World Ranking, while South Africa, USA, Spain and Italy have now been added to the line-up for what promises to be a scintillating week of hockey.

England have been drawn in Pool B and will play South Africa, Australia and Spain in their opening matches on Saturday 22, Sunday 23 and Tuesday 25 June. Continue reading

Women’s Hockey World League Semi-Final Groups Confirmed, India will play at Rotterdam

Following the last of the women’s Hockey World League Round 2 tournaments which concluded  yesterday in Rio (Brazil), the FIH today announced the line-ups for the two women’s Hockey World League Semi-Final tournaments to be held in Rotterdam and London in June.

The Rabobank Hockey World League Semi-Final tournament in Rotterdam will be held from June 13-23 in conjunction with the men’s Rabobank Hockey World League Semi-Final tournament.  Four teams (Netherlands, New Zealand, Germany, and Korea,) were already qualified for the event based on their FIH World Ranking and will be joined by four teams (Japan, India, Belgium and Chile) that qualified through the earlier rounds of the Hockey World League.

 

The Dutch enter the tournament as the top-ranked team in the FIH World Ranking. New Zealand, Germany, and Korea  were also automatically qualified for the Semi-Finals thanks to their top-eight spot in the FIH World Ranking.

The Electric Ireland Irish Women’s team gained a hugely valuable win over World League 2 hosts Spain in Valencia today to set up a winner takes all encounter with Italy tomorrow.

Irish Hockey Association LogoA much improved Ireland put in an excellent professional performance to get their World League 3 qualification hopes back on track following Tuesday’s loss to Belarus. The rain of the previous few days in Valencia disappeared and the sun was back out as Ireland started the game brightly against a team they had already faced 3 times in the last 3 weeks at a training camp in the same venue in preparation for the tournament. Electric Ireland Irish Women’s Hockey Team Start World League 2 With Win

Irish Hockey Association LogoThe Electric Ireland Irish Women’s team got off to a winning start vs. Czech Republic at World League 2 today in Valencia despite losing an early goal in warm conditions in Spain. Darren Smith’s side fell behind in the 5th minute when a defensive mix up resulted in the ball somehow finding its way into the Ireland goal. It wasn’t the start the Green Army would have wanted but credit to the side led by Captain Alex Speers, they were up for a fight today and worked hard to get themselves back into contention in the important opening game.
