Pan American teams, USA and Argentina won their respective Pool B matches at the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 in women’s competition to stay on course for Semi Finals.

USA defeated Germany by 4-1, while Argentina edged past England by 2-1 with a penalty corner goal after final hooter. In the other match of Pool B, China managed to defeat South Africa by 4-3 to keep their chances alive for final four. USA will face South Africa in their last pool game, while Argentina will take on China who are 3rd place behind the Las Leonas and have chance to leap-frog to 2nd place if they could manage a 4 goal win over the defending World Champions. The hosts Netherlands have already secured their place in the final four after a 2-0 victory over Australia last night in Pool A.

The Black Sticks Men have suffered their first loss at the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 after being defeated 3-1 by Argentina at Kyocera Stadium in The Hague, Netherlands. In other men’s Pool B matches later today Korea and South Africa played goalless draw before the battle of the border when Germany face up to the Netherlands.

After a goalless first half, Argentina powered home thanks to a second half hat-trick by Gonzalo Peiillat who scored all three from penalty corner drag flicks.
Down 0-1 the Kiwis scored a brilliant goal to equalise with Phil Burrows drilling a free hit into the circle where Stephen Jenness put a pin-point deflection through the goalkeeper’s legs.
With the score locked up the Black Sticks went searching for the winning goal but conceded two more penalty corners that Argentina were able to put away. Continue reading →
England’s Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 fate was sealed today as Jason Lee’s side fell to a 4-1 defeat at the hands of South Africa. The result means that any chances of making a semi-final and having the opportunity to play for a World Cup medal are well and truly over for the England.

In the other Pool B matches of the day the USA thrashed China 5-0 and Argentina put three past Germany without reply to leave the USA and Argentina top of Pool B. (Points Table below)
The run of play across the first 35 minutes followed very much the same pattern as England’s last game against China as Jason Lee’s side had the majority of possession but were unable to convert the half chances they created. South Africa on the other hand had two chances and they took them both; firstly through Kathleen Taylor on the 18th minute and then Sulette Damons just before the break to take the score to 2-0. An Andy Hayward hat-trick has helped the Black Sticks Men to a crushing 5-0 win over South Africa at the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 in The Hague. The Kiwis were impressive from the opening whistle and once again put on show a steely defensive effort which fed into a well executed attacking game. Earlier in the day Argentina stunned Germany with 1-0 win.

The Black Sticks were lethal from set pieces with Hayward firing three penalty corner drag flicks of his own into the back of the goal and feeding Shea McAleese for another in his 200th test. It’s now two wins from two games for the New Zealand men, who have six points and sit on top of Pool B ahead of the day’s final match.

The Hague, Netherlands, 29th May 2014: In its last warm-up game for Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 played against South Africa yesterday at The Hague, Netherlands, Team India displayed maturity and sense of purpose to achieve resounding victory over South Africa 4-1 after a 1-2 losing against Argentina on Monday.

India dominated the game from the very first half of the game itself, when Vice-Captain Rupinder Pal Singh made no mistake in converting a penalty corner opportunity and took a 1-0 lead over South Africa at the end of the first half. The Hague, Netherlands, 26th May 2014:Indian forward Lalit Upadhyay arrived at The Hague, Netherlands today afternoon for Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014 replacing injured Ramandeep Singh.

India’s forward Ramandeep Singh got seriously injured while ball hit him during practice match played against Argentina yesterday. In the match, India lost to Argentina 1-2. Argentina scored 1 goal each in the 1st half and the 2nd half of the match. Only goal through India was scored by Dharamvir Singh in the second half of the match.
Ramandeep got multiple fractures in his right eye socket and cheekbone, after which he was immediately rushed to the hospital and got the surgery done. Today, he was discharged from the hospital and was advised complete rest by the doctors. He will have next medical review on 30th May 2014. All hockey fans and supporter wish him a speedy recovery.
