The Indian Men Hockey team is practicing for the Fintro FIH Hockey World League Semi-Finals and is gearing up for the upcoming challenge. Placed in the Pool A of the tournament the team will be seen clashing against Australia, Pakistan, France and Poland and will be aiming the Top 2 position in the Pool phase.

The team is looking forward to their matches against both Australia and Pakistan wherein with the former the Indian boys have proved to be dominant team in the recent clashes and with the latter the team will be looking at settling scores.
Speaking on the tournament and the challenges, Captain Sardar Singh said “The team is shaping out well in the last few practice sessions. Our new game plan of 10 attacking and 10 defending gives the extra boost to the mid-field position, as this will help in countering the counter attacks from the opponents. Hockey India today recommended players for this year’s Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and Arjuna Award 2015. Sardar Singh has been recommended for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Awards. For the Arjuna Awards Hockey India has recommended Danish Mujtaba, Dharamvir Singh, VR Raghunath, P R Sreejesh, and SV Sunil while in the women category the recommendation has gone for Asunta Lakra, Deepika, Rani, Ritu Rani, Sushila Chanu and Vandana Katariya.

Speaking on the recommendations, Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad, Secretary General, Hockey India said, “The players that we have recommended for the Awards have proved themselves on the field through their play and through their representation in the National Teams have made India proud. Sardar Singh, the captain of Indian Men’s Hockey Team, received the award from the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan, in New Delhi today. Sardar Singh and co along with Indian Women Hockey team were felicitated by Hockey India on Saturday at a grand ceremony “Hockey India Annual Awards” for their achievements in 2014.

The 28-year-old midfielder Sardar has played a pivotal role for India and his skilful game which has even inspired the new generation of hockey players across the world. The third season of The Hockey India League 2015 is all prepared to set the ground on fire. The DELHI WAVERIDERS team, the Delhi franchise in the HIL, defending champions & winners of the last season, are set to play with all energy & courage to retain the title.

In an event organized at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, the team appeared with a fresh vigour and spirit. Cedric D Souza, team’s chief coach, welcomed 4 new players, Andrew Hayward, Diwakar Ram and Erasmus Pieterse & Gurpreet Singh into the team and presented them with the team’s jersey. The coach also shared the strategies that the team will follow to retain the title yet again.
Under the captaincy of Captain Sardar Singh and trained by Cedric D Souza, the team is all set to create a thunder on the grounds, defeating their opponents with their weapons – the Hockey Sticks.
