England Hockey had received news of its funding outcomes from Sport England and UK Sport for the funding period 2013 –2017 in 3rd week of December (17th-18th Dec).

Sport England – £12m to support growing participation, talent development and capital facility investment.
UK Sport – £15.5m to support the England and Great Britain international teams.
Sally Munday, England Hockey Chief Executive, states, “We are delighted that England Hockey will receive over £27.5m in funding from Sport England and UK Sport collectively over the next four years. £12m of funding from Sport England is to support our shared ambitions of increasing participation in grassroots hockey and identifying and developing the next generation of talented hockey players. Custodian Bharat Chetri will be the captain of the Indian hockey team and the live wire of team Sardar Singh will be his deputy in the London Olympics. Hockey India has announced the 18 member squad including 2 stand bys who will be staying and practicing with the team in the Olympic Village and Riverbank Arena, but can be included only in case of serious injury amongst 16 players.
India are in Pool B, alongwith Germany, Korea, New Zealand, Belgium and Netherlands and will open their campaign against Netherlands on 30 July.
Indian team will reach Olympic Games village in London on 19 July 2012, after finishing their final leg of preparations for Olympics with tour of France and Spain, where they will play test matches against France, Spain and South Africa and a tri-nation tournament involving Great Britain, Spain and India.

Experienced custodian Bharat Chetri will lead an 18 member Indian team in the Visa International Invitational Hockey Tournament Men’s Four Nation Tournament (a part of London Prepares Series) to be held at Riverbank Arena, Olympic Park, London from 2-6 May, 2012.

As in Olympic Qualifiers, Star midfielder Sardar Singh will be again take the role of deputy to Chetry in the squad, in which game changer in the mid of field Gurbaj Singh makes a comeback after being on side line due to injury since January. Promising India striker Yuvraj Walmiki could not find place in 18, who is nursing injury which got during the Olympic qualifiers. Another omission from Olympic Qualifiers squad is Rupinderpal Singh, who is put in the standby list.
The team was announced by Hockey India (HI) after conducting selection trials at SAI Centre, Bangalore on April 8 and 9. The selection trial was witnessed by HI selectors B P Govinda and Col Balbir Singh, along with Government Observer Harbinder Singh. Continue reading →
