The Indian Women Hockey team returned home amidst fans and family after a 7th place finish in the just concluded Hawke’s Bay Cup 2015 in New Zealand. While the team ended in the 7th position among 8 participating, they have come back home with many positives and learning. These insights into their game will be used to their benefit for the upcoming FIH Hockey World League Semi-Final slated in June.

The team has to its credit of holding 2nd ranked team Australia to a 0-0 draw wherein not only they successfully kept them at bay but even during the game gave some jittery moments to the opponents and a chance to go one up in the game. The team while playing against New Zealand had a good start wherein they scored just six minutes into the game in quarter finals at Hawke’s Bay Cup. While India lost the match from thereon, but it was India who made the initial attack and were bang on with the penalty corner. What was icing on the cake was India’s match against higher seeded FIH ranked Japan where trailing the game 0-2 India bounced back to claim the game 3-2 leaving everyone stunned and in awe. The Indian Women Hockey Squad for the upcoming Hawke’s Bay Cup to be played in New Zealand from the 11th – 19th April 2015 was announced today. Ritu Rani will lead the team against seven other higher ranked teams including Argentina, Australia, China, Japan, Korea, USA and hosts New Zealand in the all important tournament. The Pargat Singh Defender of Year awardee Deepika will be the vice-captain of the team.

As the preparatory camp of Indian Women Hockey team for the upcoming Hawkes Bay Cup 2015, New Zealand is going on with full throttle at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, Captain Ritu Rani is working on various game-plans with the coaching staff and experimenting varied team combinations with players.

The ongoing camp, which started on 22nd March and will conclude on 7th April, is a good platform for the team to work on their various aspects as well as analysing their strengths and weaknesses of the players. Scotland, 22 July 2014: Going by the present form of her team, seasoned midfielder and captain of the Women Hockey Team, Ritu Rani seems very positive and assured of a striking show by her young players at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games which is close at hand, while the captain of Indian Men Hockey team Sardar Singh shared the similar feelings as that Jamie Dwyer and is keen to see the Kookaburras clashing against his team in the finals at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

4 June 2013: Hockey India today unveiled a new look playing kit for the Indian National Hockey teams (men’s and women’s). The launch was marked with members of the Indian teams walking the ramp at an event organized at Hotel The Lalit in New Delhi. In addition to the new look design the Indian Jersey presented today features a moisture management fabric to ensure the players stay dry, and cool and assist them to perform at their optimum levels.
