The International Hockey Federation (FIH) have confirmed that USA Women and Canada men have qualified for the hockey event at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. USA women beat Canada and Canada men beat Brazil in their semi-final match, to confirm their place in the final of the Pan Am Games hockey event and ultimately their place in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. USA Field Hockey LogoRIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – MARCH 2, 2013 – Fans braved the rain to see the U.S. take on Brazil this morning on the third day of competition at the International Hockey Federation’s World League Round 2 tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Team USA struck four times in the first half en route to a 5-0 victory over the host nation. Four players were in the scoring column contributing to today’s shutout victory, including Tyler Sundeen (Simi Valley, Cali.), Manny Martinez (San Diego, Cali.), Mohan Gandhi (Ventura, Cali.) and Will Holt (Camarillo, Cali.). U.S. Men’s Hockey team lost 6-1 to South Africa in World League 2 at Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL: February 28, 2013  – The U.S. faced a tough 6-1 loss against South Africa today after a strong first half performance in the second match of World League Round 2 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

USA Field Hockey LogoTeam USA held the No. 12 world ranked team to only one goal in the first half and had several chances to equalize the match with four penalty corners. Manny Martinez (San Diego, Cali.), playing in his second international tournament with the U.S. Men’s National Team, recorded the lone goal of the match and chronicled the second goal of his career with the national team. U.S. Men’s Field Hockey Team falls 1-0 to Chile in Brazil

Despite a convincing performance, Chile defeated the U.S. 1-0 in the opening match of World League Round 2

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL, Feb 27, 2013 – The U.S. Men’s Field Hockey Team opened their World League Round 2 campaign against Chile this afternoon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the host city of the 2016 Olympic Games. Despite a solid performance and numerous scoring opportunities, the U.S. fell 1-0 to the No. 25 world ranked team.

“I thought we controlled the match very well, had a lot of possession and moved the ball up the field with ease,” said head coach Chris Clements. “We were very successful when we created pressure and forced the ball in to the circle, however, we were just a little tentative in our final attacking movements towards the goal. U.S Men’s Squad for Hockey World League 2 Rio is Named

Clements has selected 18-athletes to represent the U.S. in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for World League Round 2

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Chris Clements, head coach of the U.S. Men’s Field Hockey Team, today announced the 18-player roster for the upcoming International Hockey Federation’s World League Round 2 tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, February 27-March 5. Team USA arrives in Rio de Janeiro tomorrow for a brief preparation period prior to the start competition. Three athletes, Johnny Orozco (Ventura, Cali.), Spencer Reed (Ventura, Cali.) and Kanwarpreet Sidhu (San Jose, Cali.), will look to record their first cap with the national team while in Brazil.
