India face Dutch Women in #HWL2015 Quarter on Tue 30th June

Entering the quarter-final stage of FINTRO Hockey World League 2015 (Women), team India is all set to take on world number 1 side, The Netherlands in Antwerp, Belgium tomorrow (30th June). In other quarter-finals, Australia will play Italy, New Zealand face Japan and hosts Belgium take on Korea on the same day. (Full Schedule here)

The two teams, India and the Netherlands, have not played with each other lately but the Indian Women Hockey Team is looking forward to carve their plan and emerge victorious against the FIH Ranked # 1 Netherlands this time around.

While, the Dutch team is placed on the top of Pool A and had won all their league matches in the tournament, the Indian eves lost three matches against Belgium, New Zealand and Australia in Pool B and registered only one win against Poland. Following the completion of the pool phase at the women’s FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Final 2015 in Antwerp, the line-up for the cross-over quarter-final matches has been confirmed. The top three finishers in the event will not only seal a place at the end of year Hockey World League Final in Argentina but also qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Maartje Paumen scored a hat-trick against Italy as the Netherlands finished top of Pool A, with Oranje now facing a quarter-final match-up against India, Pool B’s fourth placed team. In Pool B, Anita Punt and Gemma Flynn were on target as New Zealand defeated Belgium’s Red Panthers to seal a first place finish and will now meet Japan in the last eight. Continue reading →

Argentina and Pakistan top Pools, hosts Malaysia face Germany in Quarters of World League 3

Pool competition concluded today in Hockey World League Semi Final at Johor Bahru, Malaysia, with Argentina and Pakistan winning their respective matches to finish as pool toppers and to set up quarter finals against South Africa and Korea respectively. While England defeated Malaysia to finish 2nd in Pool B and will face Japan in quarter finals, while hosts Malaysia are up against London Olympics Gold Medalists Germany in the knock-out stage, which will be played on 4th July after a rest day tomorrow (Pool points table, results and full schedule here).

Indian Women to Face Hosts Netherlands in Quarter Finals at Rotterdam

Indian Women’s Hockey Team will face hosts Netherlands in the quarter-finals of Hockey World League, while Pool B toppers Germany will take on Chile. New Zealand and Korea lock horns with Japan and Belgium respectively in other two quarter-final matches in Rotterdam.

Karnataka, Jharkhand qualify for Quarterfinals of Men’s Senior National Championship (India)

Bangalore, Sept 29: Hosts Karnataka and Jharkhand completed the quarter-final line-up with emphatic victories in the concluding league matches of Hockey India’s 2nd Senior National hockey championship, here on Saturday.

Unbeaten Karnataka topped pool B with a 5-1 win over Andhra Pradesh who could not sustain the initial spirit while Jharkhand, with Ajitesh Roy scoring four goals, outplayed debutants Sashastra Seema Bal 9-1 for an all-win record in pool D.

The quarter-final line-up is: holders Haryana vs Manipur; Punjab vs Indian Railways; Karnataka vs Tamil Nadu; Jharkhand vs Air India. All the four matches will be played on Sunday. Continue reading →

Punjab to take on Haryana in semifinals, Odisha to face SAI Bhopal

LUCKNOW, September 7: Punjab set up a high-voltage semifinal clash with defending champions Haryana in the 2ndJunior National Men Hockey Championship at the Major Dhyan Chand Stadium in the Guru Gobind Singh College here tomorrow. Last year’s finalist Odisha will battle it out with SAI Bhopal in the other semifinal.

In the quarterfinals today, Punjab beat MP Hockey Academy (Bhopal) 7-1 and Haryana defeated Himachal Pradesh 4-1. Odisha had to put their best foot forward to secure a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Karnataka.
