New Delhi, 18th June 2014: With an aim to find fresh talents in the country and to benefit the game at all levels, Hockey India today announced the appointment of Olympic Gold Medalist V Baskaran as the Manager, High Performance (South Zone) Hockey India.

He was recently appointed as coach to assist current chief coach Terry Walsh before FIH World League Finals in Delhi in January 2014, and now he will be working under Director High Performance Roelant Oltmans. Baskaran was also the coach of Bhopal Badshahs in World Series Hockey 2012, a league with eight city franchises supported by Hockey India’s rival body Indian Hockey Federation .
In the new set-up, Former coach of the Senior Men Hockey Team, V Baskaran will be working in the direction of implementing the Hockey India development programme as part of overall High Performance programme for men and women hockey at the grassroots level including school, college and district level hockey in the South Zone of the country. 14 March 2014: On the 2nd day of the 4th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship (A-Division), Vidarbha Hockey Association rain 11 goals on team Goa in Pool A, while Himachal Pradesh crushed Jammu & Kashmir 12-0, Rajasthan beat Puducherry 6-0 and Assam edged past Bengal 1-0.

After Captain Roshni Kupale scored the first goal for her team, Vidarbha Hockey Association, in the 16th minute it was Sarika Malkhede who scored a hat-trick goal. While 2 goals came before the end of 1st half right after the start of 2nd half she scored her third goal for her team.
Post that it was Sarita Malkhede who went on to score a hat-trick goal which she delivered within 6 minutes and came in the 43rd, 47th and 48th minute. After that it was again Sarika Malkhede who added another 2 goals to tally in the 53rd and 62nd minute. This helped Vidarbha Hockey Association take an easy win over Goa. Continue reading →
On the sixth day of the 4th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship 2014, Hockey Gangpur-Odisha and Kerala confirmed their places in semi-finals of the B-Division of the tournament being played at the Astro-turf of Chamundi Vihar grounds Mysore.

Hockey Gangpur-Odisha and Assam will face each other in semi-finals to be played on Wednesday (12th March), while winners of Pool A and C, Manipur and Chhattisgarh take on each other for the places in final of 4th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship 2014 (Division B).
Hockey Gangpur-Odisha defeated Assam by 8-1. In the match, Rinki Kujur Rajita Kujur and Janhabi Pradhan scored two goals each. Though there was sense of resistance from the Hockey Assam defenders but it was not enough to stop the Gangpur team. 8 March 2014: Maxima Xalcxo and Phulwari Kandulana scored thrice for Assam which helped their team to register 7-0 win against Jammu and Kashmir in their first league match of the 4th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship 2014 (Division B) held at the Astro-turf of Chamundi Vihar grounds in Mysore today.

In a group B match, Maxima Xalxo provided initial lead to her team in the 4th minute by scoring a field goal. Forward Phulwari Kandulana moving the ball from the right end of the court went on to score the second goal in the 21st minute. The defenders of Jammu and Kashmir tried hard to resist the front line players entering into the danger zone. 07 March 2014: Manipur and Chhattisgarh have confirmed their places in the semi-finals of the 4th Hockey India Junior Women National Championship 2014 (Division B) being played at Chamundi Vihar Hockey Ground in Mysore today.

In their last league match of Pool A, Manipur registered their third win in a row defeating Vidarbha Hockey Association 6-0.
Manipur took a decent 2-0 lead in the first half of the game when Sonia Devi scored at the 17th minute and Captain Gitarani Devi scoring at the 22nd minute. The second half of the game saw, Manipur girls going all out and closing the game with a 6-0 victory over Vidarbha Hockey Association, where Bidyarani Devi scored two goals at 39th and 47th minute and Sonia Devi took her total of goals to three by scoring two more goals at 49th and 60th minute. Chhattisgarh defeated Kerala in a thriller to reach the top of Pool D, but their place in semi final will be dependent on the result of the match between Maharashtra and Delhi to be played tomorrow. Chhattisgarh will be in semis if Maharashtra fails to score a victory, otherwise Maharashtra will be through to final four.
In the first match of the day the audience witnessed Chhattisgarh Hockey defeating Kerala in a thrilling match. At half time when the scores were 2-0 with Hockey Kerala leading the scoreboard nobody could have expected Chhattisgarh to make a strong comeback and going on to win the match 3 goals to 2.
