Australian Junior Women’s Hockey Team Jillaroos selected for Japan Tour

Hockey Australia has announced the Jillaroos squad for next month’s tour to Japan. The U21 women’s team will play four matches against Japan ‘A’ in preparation for the Junior World Cup at the end of July.

Hockey Australia LogoNational Junior Coach Craig Victory has called upon the services of 11 of the squad that won gold at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney at the start of the year. Day 2 at Sub-Junior Hockey National Championship (Final) 2013: Haryana Girls win their 2nd Consecutive Game

New Delhi, 22 May 2013: Four goals by skipper Navpreet helped Haryana women to register their second consecutive win as they defeated The Hockey Maharashtra 11-1 in the Pool B match on day 2 of the 3rd Hockey India Sub-Junior Men & Women National Championship (Final) 2013 played at SAI Centre, Bhopal on Wednesday.

The goal scorers for Haryana were Navpreet (2, 14, 53, 64 min), Devika (5, 45 min), Sonika (6 min), Manpreet (30, 40 min) and Asha (52 min) while The Hockey Maharashtra scored through Alaknanda (43 min). Continue reading

Blend of Youth and Experience in Hockeyroos Squad for Investec Hockey World League in London

22 May, 2013: The Hockeyroos will welcome back a number of familiar faces as they head to Europe for next month’s Investec Hockey World League in London with the aim of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup. The 20 athlete squad strikes a strong balance of experience and youth with seven athletes also eligible for the U21s and July’s Junior World Cup.

Hockey Australia LogoFormer World Young Player of the Year Casey Eastham (NSW), Jordyn Holzberger (QLD), Jodie Schulz (QLD) and Jade Warrender (NSW) are among those returning to the side following injury. Emily Hurtz (NSW) is selected after spending the season playing club hockey for Dutch side Amsterdam.

Two recent debutants are also named. Edwina Bone (ACT) and Jane Claxton (SA) have received the call-up from Head Coach Adam Commens following their performances against Korea in Perth last month. Claxton is one of those still eligible for selection to the Jillaroos squad alongside Jade Warrender, Emily Smith, Anna Flanagan, Jordyn Holzberger, Karri McMahon and Georgia Nanscawen, who at 20 recently became the youngest player to play 100 matches for the Hockeyroos. Day 1 at Sub-Junior Hockey National Championship (Final) 2013: Defending Champions MPHA Win their Opening Game

New Delhi, 21 May 2013: Defending Champions Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy women defeated Chandigarh 2-1 in their opening match of Pool A of the 3rd Hockey India Sub-Junior Men & Women National Championship (Final) 2013 on day 1 at Aish Bagh Hockey Stadium in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy scored their opening goal through Neelu in the 3rd minute. Preeti Dubey scored another goal for Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy in the 19th minute while Saroj scored the only goal for Chandigarh in the 17th minute. Continue reading

Andrew Meredith’s Irish Men’s team have beaten reigning Olympic Champions Germany 3-2 in Heilbronn this afternoon in an International test match in front of almost 3,000 spectators. Ireland took the lead in the 4 th minute when Pembroke Wanderers man Alan Sothern found the net.

Kookaburras Beat Korea in 4th Hockey Test to Win Series by 2-0

Hockey Australia LogoA dominant Kookaburras performance was rewarded with four quickfire goals in ten second half minutes as Australia’s men emerged as 4-1 victors over Korea in the fourth and final test in Perth. The result also sealed a series win for the Kookaburras who won twice and drew twice.

Second half goals, all penalty corners, from Perth’s own Trent Mitton, Victorian Russell Ford, the returning Kieran Govers (NSW) and Queensland’s Rob Hammond capped a determined performance in a match that the Kookaburras bossed for long spells. Continue reading
