WAPDA beat PIA to win 10th Nishan-e-Haidar Hockey Tournament

Pakistan WAPDA beat Pakistan International Airlines (White) 5-4 in a thrilling final of the 10th Nishan-e-Haider Hockey Tournament that was decided in the sudden death stage of penalty shoots at the Dring Stadium here on Tuesday.

As expected the final was full of thrill and entertainment for the crowd. The full house enjoyed an exciting contest for the control of the ball under floodlights. It started at a high pace during which both teams launched a series of attacks against each other. The ball kept rolling between the two halves. Both contestants had skilled and experienced forwards in their ranks who demonstrated brilliant stick-work that electrified the spectators who cheered and applauded every move. New Management to uplift the Pakistan Hockey Standard

Aiming at improving the standards of hockey in the country, Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has announced new selection committee, team managements for senior and junior teams and made certain other appointments. These appointments were approved unanimously at the 27th meeting of the PHF Executive Board, which also aims bringing a sustainable change from the grassroots to the national levels.

Former Olympian Islahuddin Siddiqui has been name as the chief selector and he will be assisted by former Olympians Ayaz Mehmood, Khalid Bashir, Musaddiq and Arshad Ali Ch. While Shahnaz Sheikh has been appointed as the chief coach/manager of the Senior Hockey team while Nasir Ali, Malik Shafqat, Sameer Hussain and Abuzar Umrao will assist him as members. Their term will remain till 2016. Another former Olympian Manzoor-ul-Hassan has been made chief coach and manager of the Junior team with Qamar Ibrahim, Kamran Ashraf, Muhammad Akhlaq, Rehan Butt and Mohammed Irfan as members. Their job will remain till the Junior World Cup to be held in 2016.  Rana also announced that former Olympian Tahir Zaman has been appointed as Director Coaching Program who would also work for the improvement of the game. India Vs Pakistan Hockey Test Series to Revive After 7 Years

After Pakistan Cricket team’s India tour in December 2012, their hockey team will be coming down to India next month for playing a five match test series after a gap of nearly seven years, later on India will go to Pakistan to play five matches.

Pakistan’s Probables for Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2013 Announced

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) LogoPakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) will hold the training camp of national senior probables for 22nd Sultan Azlan Shah Cup/IPOH from 9th to 17th March 2013. The 25 probables will train at National Hockey Stadium Lahore from 10th February 2013 under the watchful eyes of Akhtar Rasool Chaudhary and his support staff.

Pakistan had finished 2012 on high note with bronze at Melbourne Champions Trophy and gold at Doha Asian Champions Trophy in December 2012 while finished last in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2012 and 7th in London 2012 Olympics.

Muhammad Imran to Lead Pakistan Hockey Team in Champions Trophy

Akhtar Rasool Chaudhary, Manager/Head Coach has announced the Pakistan Hockey team for Australia tour.

Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) LogoThe team lead by Muhammad Imran will participate in the International Super Series 9-a-side to be played in Perth from 22nd to 25th November 2012 and 34th FIH Champions Trophy in Melbourne from 1st to 9th December 2012.

Pakistan is grouped with hosts Australia, Belgium and London Olympics Silver Medalists Netherlands in Pool B, while Pool A consists of London Olympics Gold Medalists Germany, England, New Zealand and India.

The training camp of national senior probables of Pakistan Hockey Team, preparing for participation in the International Super Series in Perth from 22th to 25th Nov 2012 and 34th Champions Trophy Tournament in Melbourne from 1st to 9th December 2012 will be established at Johor Town Hockey Stadium Lahore on 31stOctober 2012.
