Australia Beat Netherlands 2-1 on Golden Goal to Win 5th Consecutive Gold, Pakistan Finish 3rd in Champions Trophy 2012

Continuing on their fine run through out the tournament, the hosts Australia clinched 5th consecutive Gold Medal at Champions Trophy by defeating the Netherlands 2-1 on golden goal. It was the men in Orange, who took lead in 17th minute through Sander Baart on PC, but Russel Ford made it 1-1 on a missed PC, which stood till half time.

As usual Jaap Stockmaan was brilliant under the bars and kept Netherlands in match till the end of 2nd half. In extra time, Kieran Govers scored the winner for Kookaburras.

The bronze medal between wild card entrant India and Pakistan started on slow pace, but India took quick lead in 7th minute through VR Raghunath on PC. Pakistan, then applied pressure and Muhammad Rizwan Senior finished well worked move to equalize (1-1) in 21st minute. Continue reading →

Netherlands Knock Black Sticks Out of Contention of Finals of Champions Trophy

6 December, 2012: The New Zealand Black Sticks are out of finals contention at the Champions Trophy in Melbourne after a hard fought 2-0 defeat at the hands of Netherlands.

Black Sticks LogoThe Black Sticks showed signs of brilliance on both attack and defence but were powerless to stop the unbeaten run of the London Olympic silver medallists at the tournament.
