Defending Champions ONGC to Miss KSHA Ozonegroup National Hockey League Championship 2012-13

The 2012-13 edition of the KSHA flagship hockey event, OZONEGROUP NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP, will be played from 1st April, 2013 in Bangalore.

The defending champions ONGC will give a miss to this year’s edition, while Namdhari XI, who missed last edition, will join the 10 other teams in the tournament to be played from 1st to 20th April 2013 at the KSHA Hockey Stadium, Bangatore (map).

The eleven leading hockey teams from various parts of country, who will be fighting for the top honours, are  Air India, BPCL, IOCL, Army Red, Namdhari XI, Fortis, Punjab National Bank, SAl, Army Green, MEG and ASC. Continue reading →

IOC Set Up Final Against Air India: MCC Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey 2012

IOC (Indian Oil Corporation) defeated BPCL 4-3 in a tight match, the 2nd Semi Final of MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup 2012, to set up summit clash against Air India. In 1st Semi Final, Air India defeated defending champions ONGC by 1-0 to reach the finals of 87th edition of the tournament, which will be played at 5:00 PM on 16th September, 2012 at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Egmore, Chennai.

Tushar Khandekar pulled one back 5 minutes after the lemon break, but Deepak Thakur increased the lead 3-1 in 45th minute. V R Raghunath scored on a Penalty Corner to make it 4-1 in 67th minute. IOC Vs BPCL and ONGC Vs Air India in the Semis of Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey 2012

Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) clinched a narrow victory over (2-1) Army XI at the MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey 2012 Tournament, and which earned birth of semis for BPCL on basis of better goal difference.

MCC Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey 2012While IOC defeated Air India (3-2) to finish at the top of Pool B and will take on BPCL in semi final on Saturday (15th Sept) at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Egmore, Chennai.

In another match of the day, Railways defeated ICF (3-1), to finish 3rd in Pool B, after IOC and Air India and followed by Customs and ICF. While defending champions ONGC finished at the top of Pool A and will take on Air India in first semi final, while 14th September is rest day.

IOC, ONGC, Air India in Semis of Murugappa Cup 2012, Army XI need a draw to be in Semis

Defending Champions ONGC defeated BPCL (5-2) to confirm their place in the semi-final of MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey 2012. ONGC are on the top of Pool A with 8 points from 4 matches with 2 wins and 2 draws.

MCC Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey 2012Earlier, in the first match of the day at Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium, Army XI defeated PNB (3-2) in a close encounter to inch closer to the semi final birth. Now, Army XI need just a draw against IOB, who are yet to win a game in the tournament.

IOC and Air India are favorites from Pool B to reach the semi finals of MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey 2012 being played at Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Egmore (Chennai), while 4 of the 5 teams from Pool A still stand a chance to reach the knock out stage.

MCC Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey 2012BPCL and ONGC are at the top of Pool A with 5 points each from 3 matches (1 win and 2 draws), closely followed by PNB with 3 points from as many matches (3 draws), while Army XI has 2 points from 2 matches with 2 draws. IOB is the only team to taste loss in Pool A and has 1 point with 1 draw from 3 matches to bow out.

In Pool B, IOC and Air India have won both their matches, and need to win one more or a draw to reach the semi finals, while Railways also stand a chance to reach the knock out stage if they win their remaining two matches after having won against Customs. ICF and Customs are yet to earn a point in Pool A matches and are out of the race for the semis.

ONGC won KSHA – OZONE Group National Hockey League Championship 2011-12

ONGC won the KSHA – OZONE Group National Hockey League Championship 2011-12 with clear a margin of 5 points (27 points) from 2nd placed IOCL (22 points). ONGC who lost only one of their 10 matches in the league, was captained by Mandeep Antil. Second placed IOCL, lead by India’s experienced forward Deepak Thakur, finished the league with 22 points from 7 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. Air India finished 3rd with 21 points, while BPCL was placed at 4th place with 19 points.
