20th March 2014: International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced today changes to the structure of the game. As tried and implemented by both the Euro Hockey League and Hockey India League, the FIH has decided to do away with two 35-minute halves, introduced four 15-minute quarters for improve the flow and intensity of the game.
According to FIH release, 40-second time-outs following both penalty corner awards and the scoring of a goal have also introduced to maximum utilization of 60-minute game time for actual play by not consuming it with penalty corner set up, etc. This is also done for increasing the fan experience and opportunity for game presentation and analysis. Today FIH has announced that England and India will be the hosts of Hockey World Cups in 2018. England Hockey’s bid for hosting women’s showpiece event and Hockey India’s bid hosting men’s quadrennial hockey event were the worthy winner after going through a new and exhaustive process of bid evaluation followed by FIH.

FIH President Leandro Negre announced the hosts for 2018 Hockey World Cups at a special ceremony at the Beau Rivage Hotel in Lausanne, Switzerland on Thursday evening.
“I wish to offer my sincere congratulations to England Hockey and Hockey India on their successful bids to host the Hockey World Cups 2018”, said Mr Negre. “The quality of both bids was truly extraordinary, and the FIH is greatly looking forward to bringing its top properties to England and India. I would also like to congratulate all of the National Associations that submitted bids for these events. FIH President Negre and new appointed Sports Minister of India Ajay Maken had a meeting this week and discussed on hockey development project in India. They discussed on Hockey India and the professional league under the banner of FIH and HI. And announced that the FIH’s coming 4-year programme in country, will begin with the FIH Men’s Champions Trophy, which will take place in Delhi in a period from 1-11 December 2011 (event schedule TBC) which will be followed by a combined Men’s & Women’s Olympic Qualifier early 2012.
The Men’s FIH Champions Trophy features outright qualifiers Australia, England, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain and hosts India; along with arch-rival Pakistan and another Asian hockey giant South Korea are in three Asian teams, which will feature in the exciting new eight-team event.
