Devinder Walmiki is Happy to be back in Junior India Hockey Camp

Talented youngsters like Devinder Walmiki, Affan Yousuf, Harmanpreet Singh (Goalkeeper), Ramandeep Singh, etc. who were sidelined because they participated in World Series Hockey, have been called to junior national camp starting from 1st April in Bangalore.

Devinder Walmiki, who led Junior Indian Hockey team in the inaugural editiion of Sultan of Johor Cup in 2011, is so happy with the call that he does not have words to describe it.

While interacting with thefansofhockey.com, he said, “It has been long wait, I do not have words to express my happiness to be back in the camp. I am very thankful to the people who believed in my capabilities and backed me.”

Indian Eves to Play Azerbaijan at MDC National Stadium, New Delhi

Indian women’s team will play a 4 match test series against Azerbaijan at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi on 15th, 16th, 18th and 19th January 2012 (3:00PM to 4:30PM) as a part of their preparatory camp for Olympic Qualifiers. These tests will not only provide invaluable experience for the players ahead of the Olympic Qualifications to be conducted at the same venue from 18 – 25 February, but also an opportunity for the selectors to identify the team for this Qualifying tournament.

These core probables include the 18 members squad which visited South American Country Argentina to play 2 four nation’s tournament against South Africa, Ireland and hosts Argentina (the Las Leonas). Indian eves finished 3rd after the world champions Las Leonas (who are already qualified for London Olympics) and South Africa who will be traveling to New Delhi to take part in 1st qualifying tournament for London 2012. South Africans will be biggest challenge to be overcome by Indian women to book their tickets London.

Indian Hockey Team National Camp Size Trimmed

Goalkeeper Baljit Singh, who made a comeback to the Indian hockey camp after a gap of two years due to injury in his right during a national camp in Pune in 2009, was left out of the reduced strength of 48-campers for Indian Hockey Team National Camp for the first Asian Champions Trophy at China in September. The three-day trials to reduce the list of probables for the event concluded at the Sports Authority of India Centre, Bangalore on Friday evening. Hockey India Selectors Col. Balbir Singh, BP Govinda, Thoiba Singh and AB Subbaiah, besides Government Observer Dilip Tirkey witnessed the trials.

The star forward Prabhjot Singh, who was left out from team and camps after Hero Honda FIH World Cup 2010, where India finished lowly 8th, is included the 48, as the govt observer Dilip Tirkey stressed on inclusion of experienced players like Prabhjot Singh, Ignace Tirkey, William Xalxo, Prabodh Tirkey etc. and make them fit for Olympic qualifiers, because junior players can not be drafted directly in senior team as they dont have enough experience to play at top level.

Indian National Men’s Hockey Team Camp at SAI (South) Centre, Bangalore

Indian National Men’s Hockey Team is camping at SAI (South) Centre, Bangalore for the preparation of the upcoming important tournaments which includes FIH’s annual prestigious tournament (Champions Trophy 2011), to be held at Major Dhyan Chand National Hockey Stadium, Delhi and London 2012 Olympic Qualifiers to be played in February, 2012. India will also be playing inaugural edition of Asian Championship Trophy and will visit Australia for a 9-a-side tournament by Hockey Australia (International Super Series). Players are slowly getting into rhythm through the monitoring and light warm-up sessions with the coaches Mohd Riaz and BJ Cariappa, while the newly appointed Chief Coach, Michael Nobbs, is expected to join the camp soon. On the other hand, SAI officials have left no stone unturned to hand over best possible surface for the camp.
