Hockey India on the sideline of hosting a Good Luck dinner for the Indian Men and Women team ahead of their departures for the upcoming FINTRO FIH World League Semi-Finals to be held from 20 June – 5th July in Antwerp (Belgium), marked yet another first in the history of Indian Hockey wherein players of both teams were presented with caps which has their own individual Unique Number and which stays with them for lifelong.

The numbers given to players are based on each player representing Hockey India since the National Sports Federation was incepted in 2009. While Gurbaj will be the 13th player to have made it to the Indian Men team hence No. 13 being given to him similarly Deepika with the No. 7 cap would mean she is the 7th player to have represented the Country under Hockey India. While Sardar Singh and Ritu Rani being the Captain of the present individual teams, were bestowed with No. 1 as their Unique Cap Number. Continue reading →

A landmark occasion was witnessed, as Hockey India today conferred the first ever Annual Awards to recognise the dedication and hard work of hockey players, coaches and administrators on the field to build the sport on the national and international arena. 29 March 2014: Hockey India today held its 22nd Executive Board meeting at Holiday Inn Hotel in New Delhi. Some major decisions were taken in the meeting along with routine matters of the Federation.
With the aim of promoting hockey as a sport across the world, Hockey India took a strategic decision to provide aid to Afghanistan Hockey Federation, as Afghanistan Hockey Federation had requested for aid in a communiqué received early this month. India won the rights to host 2018 Senior Men’s World Cup after presenting a strong bid to FIH, the other countries shortlisted were Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia and Germany.

Apart from 2018 Hockey World Cup, India will also be hosting the 2016 Junior Men’s World Cup, 2015 and 2017 Hockey World League Finals (2015-2018 Cycle hosts country details are here).

New Delhi, 8 April 2013: Hockey India announced its High Performance and Development Committee for 2013-14. The 15 member committee will be headed by Dr Narinder Batra (Secretary General of Hockey India) and Roelant Oltmans (High Performance Director, Hockey India) will be the Vice-Chairman.
The committee has Ajit Pal Singh (former Captain of 1975 World Cup winning team), Col. Balbir Singh (former Olympian and National Selector), Dilip Tirkey (former Captain and Member Rajya Sabha), Sukhvir Singh Grewal, Thoiba Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Dr RP Singh, Surinder Kaur, Saba Anjum, Michael Nobbs (Chief Coach, National Senior Men Hockey Team), Neil Hawgood (Chief Coach, National Senior Women Hockey Team) and Gregg Clark (Coach, National Junior Men Hockey Team) as its members. On this occasion, Mr. Pawan Munjal announced the ‘Hero Player of the Tournament’ award of Rs. 25 lakh, which will be given to the best player of the Hero Hockey India League.
Dr Narinder Batra announced that the ‘Upcoming Player of the Tournament‘ will receive Gurdeep (Ponty) Singh Chaddha Award of Rs 20 Lakh.
There will also be a Fair Play Award.
In every match, the best goal scorer will receive “Hero Goal of the Match Award” of Rs 25,000.
