Waveriders beat Warriors to Start HIL 2014 Winning Note

Delhi Waveriders have started their campaign of Hero Hockey India League 2014 with a convincing 3-1 victory over Jaypee Punjab Warriors.

The runners-up of the inaugural edition, Waveriders started from where they left last year and kept their record by winning all 5 encounters against the Warriors.

It was nice to see the likes of Arjun Halappa, Rajpal Singh, Vikram Pillay in action for Delhi team, as youngsters stole the show. The opening goal of the 2nd HIL came from the stick of Talwindar Singh for the Waveriders, while young charismatic forward from Bhopal Affan Yousuf equalized for the Warriors. Continue reading →

Delhi Waveriders take on Punjab Warriors in Hockey India League 2014 Opener

Big day for hockey is here, as the Runners Up of inaugural edition of Hero Hockey India League (HIL), the Delhi Waveriders are set to take on Jaypee Punjab Warriors in the opening game of 2nd edition of the league, which will start off with a gala opening ceremony tomorrow (25th January)  at Mohali’s new Hockey Stadium.

The second edition of Hockey India League will see a new team, i.e. Kalinga Lancers, in the competition to make it 6 teams affair, which will see 72 Olympians and players from 11 countries participating.

The Delhi Waveriders played a total of 4 matches against Jaypee Punjab Warriors in the 1st edition and won all of them. So it will be Punjab side lead by inspirational Jamie Dwyer, record five times FIH Player of the Year awardee, who would be looking for the win to start their campaign on high. Continue reading →
