Mumbai, 05 February 2013: Uttar Pradesh Wizards sealed their place in the semi-finals of the Hero Hockey India League with a 1-0 win over Dabur Mumbai Magicians at Mumbai Hockey Association Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. Wizards’ win also ended Magicians’ chances of making it to the semi-finals.

Nothing less than a win would have kept Magicians’ challenge in the tournament alive. However, a first half goal by Luke Doerner sealed the fate of the hosts.
Knowing that only a win can keep them in the tournament, Magicians went on attack right from the word go. And the hosts were rewarded with a penalty corner in the second minute. Jonny Jasrotia celebrates a goal with Mathew Swann and Faisal Saari
Jonny Jasrotia (11th minute), Jason Wilson (45) and Sandeep Singh (52, 66) found the target for the hosts to keep themselves alive in the inaugural edition of HIL.
“This is our first win in the tournament and we are very happy today. We have been playing well in the last few matches and we hope to keep improving,” said Sandeep after the match.

Mumbai, 30th January 2013: Jaypee Punjab Warriors would look to quickly forget the humiliating defeat against league leaders Delhi Waveriders and return to winning ways when they take on bottom placed Dabur Mumbai Magicians in the Hero Hockey India League encounter at the Mahindra Hockey stadium on Thursday.

The Warriors, who had found some form in their last league encounters and were looking to challenge for the first two spots in the standings, were completely outplayed by the Waveriders on Tuesday and could not even earn one point due to the three goal margin of defeat.
The loss also ended their four match unbeaten run in the competition and team captain Jamie Dwyer was quick to assert after the match that the team wants to get back to the winning ways before the business end of the tournament starts. Continue reading →

Wednesdays game 30th January: Dabur Mumbai Magicians vs Uttar Pradesh Wizards at the MHA Stadium at 6:00 PM.
Mumbai, 29th January 2013: Dabur Mumbai Magicians would be facing Uttar Pradesh Wizards for the first time in the inaugural edition of the Hero Hockey India League when they host the Lucknow based Wizards at their home ground i.e. the Mahindra Hockey stadium in Mumbai. And the hosts would be hoping for the change of fortunes and would be hoping to register their maiden victory in the tournament.
The Ric Charlesworth coached side has put up a much improved performance in their last few games but victory has always eluded the Magicians, who are placed at last position in the points table with 7 bonus points (for loss with 2 or less goal difference) from 7 matches. They face a must-win situation in all their last five encounters if they have to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals. In a match played at a cracking pace, Oscar Deecke, Norris Jones, Danish Mujtaba, Akashdeep Singh, Andres Mir Bel and Simon Child scored a goal each for the visitors. Sandeep Singh’s brace, and Glen Turner and Jason Wilson’s one goal each wasn’t good enough for the hosts, who have now lost four out of four games in the league stage.
