Delhi Waveriders edged past 2-1 Dabur Mumbai Magicians to consolidate their first position in the points table of the Hero Hockey India League 2014 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi today, as Yuvraj Walmiki deflected in to score the winning goal for his team.

After a relatively quiet start, the match gathered pace in the second half as both the teams displayed fine exhibition of hockey.
But the match witnessed a sedate start and was devoid of any real action on the turf in the first quarter as the two teams took time to settle down.

The defending champions Ranchi Rhinos were held for draw by a much improved and spirited Dabur Mumbai Magicians in a league match of the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) at the Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi today.

It took the Ranchi Rhinos 52 minutes to open the scoring through Justin Reid Ross before Dabur Mumbai Magicians equalized six minutes later through Trent Mitton (58th minute) to split the points as their Irish Goalkeeper David Harte pulled out a man-of-the-match performance including saving a penalty stroke.
Dabur Mumbai Magicians made a promising start and dominated the early share of possession.

In the match between the two bottom-placed teams of the league so far, the Lancers performed better than the Magicians, who returned with the wooden-spoon from the inaugural edition of the league.
The Lancers dictated the terms in the match for the entire 70 minutes and created more scoring opportunities as the Mumbai outfit mostly played a catch-up game, as the young Lancers’ custodian Harjot Singh, who later adjudged as Man-of-the-Match, pulled up some brilliant saves to win the match for his team. Jaypee Punjab Warriors, bounced back from last night’s defeat against Delhi Waveriders, made a promising start to the encounter and created trouble for the Dabur Mumbai Magicians defense from the onset. Agustin Mazzilli put Jaypee Punjab Warriors ahead in the seventh minute by scoring from a rebound after young Affan Yousuf’s initial shot was saved by Mumbai goalkeeper PR Sreejesh.
