Gold for Dutch and Bronze for India at Junior World Cup (Women)

The defending champions Netherlands defeated Argentina and India defeated England in penalty shoot-outs to win the Gold and Bronze Medal respectively at the ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup in Mönchengladbach on Sunday.

On asking about the feeling of winning first ever medal at this level Rani (Vice Captain of India and Player of the tournament) said “It really feel very good. We are so happy and we have to thank our goalkeeper Bigan Soy who did very well in the shoot-outs. We were mentally prepared for shoot-outs which was good. The Junior Black Sticks Women have edged hosts Germany 2-1 to finish 9th at the ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup in Mönchengladbach.

Jillaroos Went Down to Spain to Finish 5th at Junior World Cup

Australia’s U21 women’s hockey team, the Jillaroos, finished sixth at the ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup in Germany on Sunday after going down 1-0 to Spain in their final match of the tournament.

Ergo Hockey Junior World Cup 2013 (Women) LogoIn a game reminiscent of their earlier quarter final defeat to England, Australia were in control throughout but failed to find a way past a determined Spanish defence and ultimately lost out to one of their opponent’s rare shots on target.

The match was decided by a solitary penalty corner goal from Spain’s Cristina Guinea in the 23rd minute. And while the Jillaroos had their chances, particularly from penalty corners, they emerged goalless against opponents that had finished top of Pool D earlier in the tournament. Continue reading →

Junior Black Sticks will face Germany for 9th Place

With 4-1 win over China, the Junior Black Sticks has set up a playoff for ninth place against hosts Germany at the ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup in Mönchengladbach.

The Kiwis played well for the full 70 minutes, creating a glut of great scoring opportunities and defending strongly.

Argentina Beat England to Reach Final of Junior World Cup (Women)

England Under-21 Women were beaten 3-0 by Argentina in the semi finals of the ERGO Junior World Cup in Germany, despite battling well throughout the match in Mönchengladbach on Friday afternoon.

India Lost to Netherlands in Semi of Junior World Cup (Women)

The Netherlands defeated valiant India 3-0 in the second semi-final of the ERGO Hockey Junior World Cup in Mönchengladbach, Germany. In the final match, the Netherlands will face Argentina, who also recorded 3-0 win in semi final against England. India will take on England in Sunday’s Bronze medal match at Pitch 1 of Warsteiner HockeyPark.

In the India vs Netherlands game, which was mostly played in the midfield, Netherlands took lead through their first penalty corner. The tournament top scorer Lieke van Wijk did not waste opportunity and found the target with her drag flick in 17th minute.
