Smith announces Electric Ireland Women’s Hockey Training Camp Squad

Electric Ireland Irish Women’s Coach Darren Smith has named a 43 player squad for a 2-day training camp in Dublin on 25th and 26th May 2013 in preparation for the European Championships in Boom, Belgium from 17th to 25th August 2013.

Smith has selected the group having taken in every round of the Electric Ireland Irish Hockey League recently culminating in the Finals last weekend at Three Rock Rovers Hockey Club. Smith’s selection includes some new faces in the squad with uncapped players Vanessa Surgeoner, Chloe Brown, Kate Lloyd, Emily Beatty, Erika Hinkson, Yvonne O’Byrne, Aisling Campion & Kate Dillon joining the Green Army on this occasion. The Irish coach will also have to do without the services of Emma Clarke who is unavailable due to her upcoming marriage.

After the training weekend Smith will reduce the squad further to select a squad to train toward the European Championships and in to the latter part of 2013. Continue reading →

Ritu Rani to Lead Indian Women’s Team at World Hockey League Round 2 in Delhi

NEW DELHI, 5 February 2013: Ritu Rani will lead Indian Women’s Hockey team at World Hockey League Round to be held at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi from 18- 24 February 2013, and Chanchan Devi will be her deputy.

Hockey India announced the team after the selection trials for the team were conducted at Netaji Subash National Institute of Sports, Patiala on 19 January 2013. Th trials were witnessed by Hockey India Selectors Col. Balbir Singh and Surinder Kaur alongwith Government Observer Harbinder Singh and Chief Coach Neil Hawgood.

The camp for the preparations of the Hero Hockey World league Round 2 is already in progress from 4 January 2013 and will continue till the commencement of the tournament. Continue reading →

Indian Senior Women’s Hockey Probables for future tournaments pruned down to 33

NEW DELHI, November 16: Hockey India Selection Committee has decided to prune down the list of Senior Women Core Group probables to 33 players during the two-day selection trials which concluded at Aish Bagh Stadium, Bhopal on 10 November.

Hockey India Selectors B.P Govinda, Savitri Puri and Surinder Kaur alongwith Government Observer Harbinder Singh and Chief Coach Neil Hawgood tested the fitness and performance of all the players before pruning down the list of core probables from 48 to 33 so as to build a strong team for New Zealand Test Series in December this year and the FIH World League Round 2 Tournament to be hosted in Delhi during February 2013.

India beat Wales 3-0 in Women’s Champions Challenge I, Dublin

DUBLIN, Sept 29: India opened its campaign in the 2012 Champions Challenge 1 with a 3-0 win against Wales in Pool A here on Saturday.

Skipper Ritu Rani (18th minute), Lily Chanu Mayengbam (28th minute penalty corner) and Soundarya Yendala (70th minute penalty corner) scored the goals in the tournament that will determine the qualifier for FIH Women’s Champions Trophy.

Ireland National Women’s Squad for Electric Ireland FIH Champions Challenge I, Dublin 2012 Announced

12th Sept 2012: Ireland’s National Women’s Coach (Interim) has today announced his 18 for the upcoming Electric Ireland FIH Champions Challenge I tournament taking place in UCD, Dublin from September 29th to October 7th.

Commenting on his selection Denis Pritchard said “Given the calibre of teams involved in this tournament it is a really exciting challenge for this emerging squad. Midfielder Ritu Rani will lead Indian women’s hockey team to participate in a double-leg four-nation tournament, featuring Australia, India, New Zealand and USA, to be held at Auckland, New Zealand from April 12 to 22.  The first leg of the tournament will be played at North Harbour Hockey Centre, while Lloyd Elsmore Reserve host the second one.

Defender Joydeep Kaur with 87 international caps with be deputy to Ritu Rani who has represented India in 125 International matches. Selection trials for the team were conducted at SAI Centre, Bhopal on March 23 and 24, witnessed by Hockey India selectors Col Balbir Singh, BP Govinda and Syed Ali, alongwith government observer Harbinder Singh.
