A landmark occasion was witnessed, as Hockey India today conferred the first ever Annual Awards to recognise the dedication and hard work of hockey players, coaches and administrators on the field to build the sport on the national and international arena. New Delhi, 27 November 2013: Indian Junior Men National Team for the Hero Hockey Junior Men World Cup 2013 was announced today in a glamorous event organised at Hotel The Lalit in New Delhi where all the 18 players were introduced one by one to the media and guests.

The 18 member team will be Captained by the experienced midfielder Manpreet Singh while defender Amit Rohidas will be the Vice-Captain.
Hockey India Secretary General Dr. Narinder Batra said “Our Junior team has been training hard to reach the pinnacle during the forthcoming Junior Men World Cup. Winning the Sultan of Johar Cup and subsequent exposure during the Asian Champions Trophy were steps in right direction for the preparations. New Delhi, 28 October 2013: Mid-fielder Manpreet Singh will lead Indian Men Hockey team at the 3rd Asian Champions Trophy to be held at Kakamigahara, Japan from 2-10 November 2013.
Indian team management has decided to send the Indian Junior squad to the tournament for giving them crucial match experience and exposure before all important Hero Hockey Junior World Cup to be held in New Delhi from 6-15 December 2013.
Kothajit Singh will be the vice-captain of 18 member squad, 13 of which were part of Indian Junior Men Team who recently won the Sultan of Johor Cup 2013 in Malaysia. Continue reading →
3 September 2013: Indian junior men’s hockey was announced today for the 3rd Sultan of Johor Cup to be played at Johor Bahru, Malaysia from 22-29 September 2013.

The six nation tournament will feature Argentina, England, India, Korea, Malaysia and Pakistan. India finished as runners-up in the last edition of the tournament played in 2012.
The new look squad will be captained Midfielder Manpreet Singh while forward Affan Yousuf will be the Vice-Captain for the 3rd edition of Sultan of Johor Cup, which is an annual under-21 men’s invitational tournament. Continue reading →
17 March 2013: Indian men’s hockey team came from 1-0 down to defeat Pakistan 4-2 in the fifth place play off match in 22nd Sultan Azlan Shah Cup at Ipoh, Malaysia.

India had won against Pakistan 3-1 in the league match. This for the first time that they have defeated Pakistan twice in a tournament after 2003 Afro Asian Games, which was played in Hyderabad (India). While this is Pakistan’s successive last place finish at Ipoh, as they were seventh last year.
Pakistan got off the block first and went ahead with low flick from the skipper Muhammad Imran on their 1st Penalty Corner in 8th minute. Indian drag flick specialist Rupinder Pal Singh drew parity in 16th minute on penalty corner. New Delhi, November 15, 2012: Indian Junior Men team entered the final of 2nd Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia as they defeated New Zealand 3-1 in their fourth league match played at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium, Johor Bahru. In other two matches of the day, Pakistan and Germany defeated (2-0) last year’s finalists Malaysia and Australia respectively to keep their chances alive for the finals.

India now have 10 points and a match in hand against Malaysia to be played on Saturday and are confirmed of their place in final on Sunday. The other finalist will only be known after the completion of final round robin matches on Saturday.
India are followed by Germany and Australia with 6 points each in points table. While Pakistan and New Zealand are at 4th and 5th place in current standing with 5 and 4 points respectively. The defending champions and hosts Malaysia are at last position and are out of contention for title. Continue reading →
