India score 8 past Oman in the Hockey Asia Cup Opening Game

Indian Men’s Hockey team opened it’s 9th Asia Cup campaign with a thumping 8-0 victory over a young Oman side at the Sultan Azlan Shah Stadium in Ipoh (Malaysia) today.

Looking to seal a spot in the 2014 World Cup India put themselves on the score sheet as early in the 4th minute when Mandeep Singh pounced on a rebound of Oman keeper Fahad Khamis Salmeen Al Noufail to slot home.

India was not troubled by the Asia Cup debutants Oman in the opening half and as a result they went on to take a comfortable 4-0 lead before the break. Continue reading →

India Beat France to Record their First Win at Hockey World Leauge 3

India defeated France 6-2 in the 5th-8th classification match of Rabobank World League (Men’s) at Rotterdam. Earlier in the day, Spain edged Ireland in other classification match. India will now face Spain on Sunday for 5th place, while France will Ireland on Saturday for 7th place (detailed schedule here).

Early in the game, Hugo Genestet made it 1-0 for France with a tomahawk after collecting rebound from PR Sreejesh’s pad as France forced a turnover just outside the Indian defending quarter to bring Indian goalie in action. Continue reading →
