Defending Champions Kookaburras outclassed India in the semi final to set-up summit clash against the men in Orange, who defeated Pakistan to reach the final of the 34th FIH Champions Trophy. The hosts Australia have not lost a single match to Netherlands in Champions Trophy after 2003 gold medal match and have 20-10 win loss record against the Silver Medalists from London, Netherlands.

In quarter finals, Kookaburras defeated England 2-0 while Pool A topper Netherlands knocked New Zealand out of medal contention thus 3 teams of Pool A made to semis while only India from Pool A stayed in medal contention. Australia and Netherlands are looking for 5th consecutive title and 3rd medal in a row respectively.
On the way to semi final, the lowest ranked team in the competition, India finished as pool topper even after losing to Olympics Champions Germany. India, then defeated world number 8 side Belgium 1-0, who are appearing in the Champions Trophy for the first time. India and Netherlands are pool toppers of FIH Champions Trophy 2012 being played at State Netball Hockey Centre, Melbourne (Australia) and will face Belgium and New Zealand respectively in quarter finals. While hosts Australia will lock horns with England and Olympic Gold Medalists Germany will face unpredictable Asian Giants Pakistan in the knock out stage of the tournament.
India and Germany have 6 points from 2 wins from 3 matches but India are at top by the virtue of better goal difference. Similarly in Pool B of FIH Champions Trophy, Netherlands peeps Australia to top the pool after being tied in terms of points and goal difference.
After rest on Monday at Melbourne, the third day of matches started with New Zealand taking on world number 4 side England. It was England who took lead in 11th minute through Mark Gleghorne and went into lemon break with the lead of 1-0. As usual, New Zealand came out stronger in 2nd part of the game, but could score only in 63rd minute through veteran Phillip Burrows to score and earn their first point in the tournament.
Later in the day, India got of the mark quickly and stunned the Olympic Champions Germany with early goal through Gurvinder Singh Chandi in 5th minute.
