20th March 2014: International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced today changes to the structure of the game. As tried and implemented by both the Euro Hockey League and Hockey India League, the FIH has decided to do away with two 35-minute halves, introduced four 15-minute quarters for improve the flow and intensity of the game.
According to FIH release, 40-second time-outs following both penalty corner awards and the scoring of a goal have also introduced to maximum utilization of 60-minute game time for actual play by not consuming it with penalty corner set up, etc. This is also done for increasing the fan experience and opportunity for game presentation and analysis.
