It is India vs Pakistan for 9th Place in Jr World Cup

The junior teams of Asian Hockey giants India and Pakistan will face each other in their last match of the Hero Hockey Junior World Cup 2013 in New Delhi, but in contrast to their reputation and history in hockey, it will be for the top position in the bottom half of the tournament.

India defeated Argentina by 4-2 while Pakistan scored a convincing 4-0 victory against South Africa in 9th-12th classification matches to set themselves up for the match for 9th position to be played on Saturday, 14th December at 2000 IST (Full schedule here). And two south hemisphere teams South Africa and Argentina will fight it out for 11th place at New Delhi.

Germany Edge Australia to set up Semi against Netherlands

New Delhi, 12 December 2013: In an exciting and thrilling quarter-final between Australia and Germany, the defending champions Germany won the match by 4-3 to set-up semi-final against Netherlands at the Hero Hockey Junior World Cup 2013 in New Delhi. Earlier in the day Netherlands defeated New Zealand in quarter-final by 3-2.

Australia had finished with maximum points in Pool B, while Germany suffered a defeat at the hands of Belgium on opening day.

National Junior Coach of Australia, Paul Gaudion declared after the match he was “extremely proud” of team’s performance saying, “The desire and fight the boys showed tonight was excellent. We gave ourselves a great chance to win against a very good team – a team we should perhaps have met later on in the tournament.

Malaysia beat Korea to face France in Semis

Impressive Malaysians, who came in as Asian Champions, held their nerves and riding high on man-of-the-match performance of their captain Fitri Saari and two crucial penalty corner goals of Shahril Saabah defeated their Asian rivals Korea to be sure of best ever finish after 1979 and 1983 edition of Junior World Cup.

France Stunned Belgium to Reach Semis of Jr World Cup

France stunned European Champions Belgium in a 9 goal thrilling quarter-final match at the Hero Hockey Junior World Cup 2013 in New Delhi. Earlier in morning, Netherlands defeated New Zealand 3-2 in other quarter-final.

France, who had only lost to Belgium on an overtime golden goal in semi-finals of the Junior European Cup, came 2-4 down at one stage to clinch the match by 5-4 and will now face the winner of Malaysia vs Korea in the semi-final to be played tomorrow (13th December).

Happy with the win France Coach, Gael Foulard said “it’s a very happy moment for the boys as this is the first time that we have reached the semi-finals. The entire team played as a team and played an amazing game of hockey. It’s the belief that we have in ourselves as a team, which has proved to be our biggest strength in this tournament. It was a very close game again and we did not have revenge in our minds today when we started playing, rather we have a cordial relationship with them. England and Spain to Fight for 13th Place at Jr World Cup

England defeated Egypt 6-1, while Spain edged past Canada 3-2 to set-up themselves for 13th place play-off at the Hero Hockey Junior World Cup 2013 in New Delhi.

In the first match of the 13th-16th placing round, Egypt showed up to play for the opening half, stunned England to take lead in 10th minute and held it on till half time.

As for Egypt, who entered the 16-team tournament seeded last, Ramy Mohamed served the stinger that was the lone first-half goal. Egypt’s captain Ahmed Mohsen served up most of the trouble for the English back line despite some valiant tackles from England’s leader Andrew Bull. Continue reading →
