A strong start and finish by the Junior Black Sticks Men was not enough to clinch a win against Australia, going down 2-4 at the Junior World Cup Qualifiers on the Gold Coast tonight.

It was a much different game from the 15-0 win yesterday against Papua New Guinea, and despite goals from Auckland’s Jared Panchia and Southern’s Jeremy Morris, it was not enough to give the Kiwis the win they were after.

Junior Black Sticks underway at the Hockey World Cup Qualifier

The Junior Black Sticks Men beat Papua New Guinea 15-0 today, while the women lost 3-1 against Australia in the first games of their respective Junior World Cup Qualifiers in the Gold Coast.

Black Sticks LogoThe Women are playing three tests against Australia, and the men play games against Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Australia with the top two qualifying for the 2013 Junior World Cups.

Samoa and Papua New Guinea withdrew on the women’s side, allowing the Kiwi women automatic qualification along with Australia. Regardless, a tournament win for the Kiwis (men and women) will result in an easier pool at the Junior World Cup. Continue reading →

Malaysian Junior Hockey Team Won 1st Phase of KSHA Super Division Hockey League

Continuing on their winning run, the Malaysian Junior Hockey team won the 1st Phase of the KSHA State Super Division Hockey League tournament by defeating MEG “A” in well contested final match played at KSHA Hockey Stadium, Bangalore on Sunday.

Malaysian junior men’s hockey team i.e. Project 2013 Hockey Squad, is in Bangalore (India) on two weeks playing tour. The team is currently playing in the 1st Phase of KSHA State Super Division Hockey Tournament 2012-13.

Junior Women Probables pruned down to 33 in preparations for the FIH Junior Women World Cup 2013

NEW DELHI, November 19:  Hockey India Selection Committee has decided to prune down the list of Junior Women Core Group probables to 33 players during the two-day selection trials which concluded at the Aish Bagh Hockey Stadium and Mayur Park Stadium at Bhopal on 10 November.

Hockey India Selectors B.P Govinda, Savitry Purty and Surender Kaur alongwith Government Observer Harbinder Singh, Chief Coach Neil Hawgood and Coach Narinder Saini tested the fitness and performance of all players during the trials before pruning down the list of core probables to 33 in preparations for the FIH Junior Women World Cup 2013.
