Day 1 at Sub-Junior Hockey National Championship (Final) 2013: Defending Champions MPHA Win their Opening Game

New Delhi, 21 May 2013: Defending Champions Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy women defeated Chandigarh 2-1 in their opening match of Pool A of the 3rd Hockey India Sub-Junior Men & Women National Championship (Final) 2013 on day 1 at Aish Bagh Hockey Stadium in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy scored their opening goal through Neelu in the 3rd minute. Preeti Dubey scored another goal for Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy in the 19th minute while Saroj scored the only goal for Chandigarh in the 17th minute. Continue reading

Sub-Junior Men & Women Hockey National Championship (Finals) 2013 to start in Bhopal on 21 May

New Delhi, 20 May 2013: The 3rd edition of the Hockey India Sub-Junior Men & Women National Championship (Finals) 2013 will be played at Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh from 21-27 May 2013.

Hockey India LogoA total of 28 teams in the men’s and 25 in the women’s category have participated in the 3rd Hockey India Sub-Junior National Championship which was conducted zonal wise in the month of April. The winners and runners-up of each of the four zones have qualified for the final round.

There will be eight teams playing in each of the men’s and women’s category, and the teams are divided into two pools and the matches will be played at Aish Bagh Hockey Stadium and Mayur Park Hockey Stadium in Bhopal. Continue reading

Junior Black Sticks Women Beat Korea Under-21 Hockey Team

The Junior Black Sticks Women (Under-21’s) have put on another strong display today winning 4-3 against Korea’s Under-21 side at Auckland Grammar Hockey Turf.

Coach Chris Leslie was pleased with today’s performance and says this series goes a long way in preparing players for the Junior World Cup in Germany in July.

“It was a step up from the first match [yesterday] and we certainly played with more intensity. We moved the ball on well and stretched the opposition on a number of occasions which was pleasing,” says Leslie. Continue reading

Amit Rohidas to Lead Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team for European Tour

New Delhi, 19 May 2013: The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey team is undergoing a preparatory camp at NSSC (SAI) Bangalore. The team will travel to Europe from 23 May-5 June 2013 in preparations for the FIH Junior Men Hockey World Cup to be held in New Delhi from 6-15 December 2013.

The 18 member squad will be Captained by Amit Rohidas while Malak Singh will be the Vice-Captain.

The squad for the European tour was selected by Hockey India Selectors Col. Balbir Singh and B P Govinda along with Roelant Oltmans (High Performance Director), Gregg Clark (Foreign Coach, U-21), Baljeet Singh Saini (Coach, U-21) and Government Observer Harbinder Singh during their meeting held on 16 May 2013.

Junior Black Sticks Squads Announced for Junior World Cups

The countdown is on for the men’s and women’s Junior Black Sticks squads who have been selected for the respective Junior World Cups later this year.

Following the conclusion of the National U21 Tournament in Whangarei, head coaches Chris Leslie (Women) and Grant Edwards (Men) finalised their squads in preparation for the campaigns.

The Women’s Junior World Cup is being held in Germany from July 27th-August 4th this year, with a final team of 18 to be whittled down from the squad of 22 in the last week of May. Continue reading
