New Delhi, November 15, 2012: Indian Junior Men team entered the final of 2nd Sultan of Johor Cup in Malaysia as they defeated New Zealand 3-1 in their fourth league match played at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium, Johor Bahru. In other two matches of the day, Pakistan and Germany defeated (2-0) last year’s finalists Malaysia and Australia respectively to keep their chances alive for the finals.

India now have 10 points and a match in hand against Malaysia to be played on Saturday and are confirmed of their place in final on Sunday. The other finalist will only be known after the completion of final round robin matches on Saturday.
India are followed by Germany and Australia with 6 points each in points table. While Pakistan and New Zealand are at 4th and 5th place in current standing with 5 and 4 points respectively. A gutsy second half and a last minute goal by Kane Russell has seen the Junior Black Sticks Men draw 3-3 against Pakistan in their first game of the Sultan of Johor Cup at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Baru, Malaysia.
Pakistan had a three-goal advantage after 30 minutes, thanks to a successful penalty corner and two field goals, but the New Zealand Under-21’s fought back and made it count in the last 20 minutes of the game. Continue reading →
Junior India team for the Six Nation Sultan Johor Cup to be held in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, from 05-12 November 2011, announced.

The other teams participating are Australia, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand and Pakistan. The tournament shall be played at Taman Daya Stadium, Johor Bahru on a round robin format with the final and other position matches on 12 November.

Selection Trials for the Indian team for this tournament were conducted at SAI Centre, Bangalore on 14 & 15 October and witnessed by Hockey India Selectors Col. Balbir Singh, BP Govinda and Syed Ali. The trials were conducted after all probables underwent the Medical Age Proof Verification tests as prescribed by Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
