Johor Bahru (Malaysia), 11 October 2014: After a month-long intensive training session, a young and confident Indian Junior Men Hockey Team is ready to face New Zealand in their opening match of the 4th Sultan of Johor Cup 2014 to be played at Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Bahru on 12 October 2014.

Aiming to Defend Sultan of Johor Cup Title: Indian Captain Harjeet Singh

With the 4th Sultan of Johor Cup slated to begin from 12th October 2014, defending champions – the Indian Junior Men Team is practicing hard at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, New Delhi with an aim to retain the title.

The 4th edition of the tournament will see six teams clashing for the title and the matches are scheduled to be played at Taman Daya Hockey Stadium at Johor Bahru, Malaysia from 12th – 19th October 2014. Apart from India and hosts Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Great Britain are participating company.

Speaking at the practice sessions, Indian Junior Men Hockey Team Captain Harjeet Singh said, “Our team is upbeat at the moment and we are looking forward to retaining the title for India. We have been working on our techniques and strategies for the past few months and are confident of implementing those strategies on ground, against our opponents. The coaches have been guiding us and helping us in improving all aspects of the game. Manpreet to Lead Junior India at Sultan of Johor Cup 2013

3 September 2013: Indian junior men’s hockey was announced today for the 3rd Sultan of Johor Cup to be played at Johor Bahru, Malaysia from 22-29 September 2013.

The six nation tournament will feature Argentina, England, India, Korea, Malaysia and Pakistan. India finished as runners-up in the last edition of the tournament played in 2012.

The new look squad will be captained Midfielder Manpreet Singh while forward Affan Yousuf will be the Vice-Captain for the 3rd edition of Sultan of Johor Cup, which is an annual under-21 men’s invitational tournament. Continue reading →

Korea Qualify for the Rabobank Hockey World Cup

Korea are the latest team to be confirmed as qualifiers for the Rabobank Hockey World Cup 2014, which will take place at the Kyocera Stadium in The Hague, Netherlands from 31st May to 15th June next year.

Korea – who just missed out on direct World Cup qualification by finishing fourth at the recent Hockey World League Semi-Final in Johor Bahru, Malaysia – were promoted from first reserves to guaranteed participants courtesy of Argentina’s success in the Pan American continental championship on Saturday.
