Karnataka Reach the Finals of 64th Senior Men’s Hockey Nationals

In the crucial match played between Karnataka and Punjab for qualifying to play in the final of the 64th Senior Men’s National Hockey championship, the hosts beat (2-1) Punjab to complete all their  league stage matches with top of table finish in the single pool, which also earned a place for the hosts Karnataka in finals to be played on 16th May.

Hosts Karnataka Beat Jharkhand to Stay on the Top of Table in the 64th Senior Men’s Hockey Nationals

Karnataka beat Jharkhand 3-1 in today’s match to remain unbeaten and stay on the top of Points’ Table of 64th Senior Men’s National Hockey Championship for Rangaswamy Cup being played at KSHA Hockey Stadium in Bangalore.

At the half time the score was 1-1. Karnataka  scored through their captain Deepak Beijwad who converted a penalty corner in 21 minute and Jharkhand equalized through Deepak Soreng who scored a stinging shot from the top of the circle which Karnataka custodian had no answer.

The 2nd Half saw rejuvenated Karnataka coming back strongly and made several in roads into Jharkhand territory. N. S. Rajesh picking up a solo run and went inside the circle and scooped over the charging goal keeper to give a lead in the 36th minute. Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka Win on Day 4 of 64th Senior Men’s Hockey Nationals

The fourth day of 64th Senior Men’s National Hockey Championship turned out to be a goal fest as progressed as Mumbai defeated Jharkhand in last match by 7-5, while earlier in the day Uttar Pradesh sneaked past Punjab 1-0 and hosts Karnataka beat Manipur 4-1.

In the first match of day, Uttar Pradesh scored a narrow victory over Punjab with the help of Prem Kumar’s goal in 1st half (28th Minute), while hosts Captain Deepak Bijwad’s brace (1st and 20th Minutes) aided by a goal each from Biju Yirkal (10th Minute) and Naveen Kumar (37th Minute) helped hosts Karnataka to secure their 1st win in the tournament as they defeated Manipur 4-1. Starun scored the only goal for Manipur in 7th Minute to equalize after Karnataka had scored in very first minute of the game. Hosts Karnataka were earlier held by Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh for draws, while Manipur had lost their opening game to Jharkhand. Continue reading →

Jharkhand Win their Opener Against Manipur in 64th Senior Men’s Hockey Nationals

Jharkhand started their 64th Senior Men’s National Hockey Championship campaign on winning note with  4-2 win against Manipur at KSHA Hockey Stadium in Bangalore.

Both the teams were locked at zero all at the time of lemon break. But, 2nd half something different in store, which started with Manipur going ahead with a own goal in 37th minute. But, Jharkhand replied within 2 minute and Deepak Soreng equalized through a field goal. And the game was the battle equals once again for the period of 17 minutes, when Manipur got another Own Goal as ball kissed goalie pads to lead once again. Continue reading →

Punjab Start on Winning Note, Karnataka Drew Again in 64th Senior Men’s Hockey Nationals at Bangalore

Punjab started the campaign of 64th Senior Men’s National Hockey Championship on winning note, while Karnataka were held yet again for draw on the 2nd day of tournament at KSHA Hockey Stadium, Bangalore.

In the first match of day, former Champion Punjab defeated the defending champion Mumbai by 3-1 to start the campaign on winning note.

The mighty Punjab made its presence felt from the word go with hard hitting and confident tackling. Even before Mumbai could settle down, Punjab took the lead through a Field Goal scored by Ranjit Singh in the 4th minute. Gurjeet Singh doubled the lead in the 24th Minute on a penalty corner. Senior Men’s Hockey Nationals for Rangaswamy Cup Returns to Bangalore after 16 Years

The final phase of Senior Men’s National Hockey Championship for the 64th Rangaswamy Cup will be played at KSHA Hockey Stadium, Bangalore. The Championship has returned to Bangalore after 16 years, which will be organized by Karnataka State Hockey Association (KSHA) under the auspices of Indian Hockey Federation (IHF).

The week long competition will conclude on 16th May, with final match being played under lights at 6 PM while 3rd place play off match will be played 4PM and prize distribution ceremony after final match.
