Haryana vs Jharkhand and Railways vs Punjab in Semis at Bhopal

20 March 2014: Railways, Haryana, Jharkhand and Punjab qualified for the semi-finals of the ongoing 4th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2014 (A Division) in Bhopal at Aish Bagh and MDC stadium.

Haryana will meet Jharkhand in the first Semi-final and Punjab will take on Railways in the second semi final to be played this Saturday.

In a pool B match, Railways defeated Bihar with a massive goal difference of 24-0 including 20 Field Goals and four penalty corners. The first goal was scored by Rani in the 5th minute. Rani emerged as the highest scorer of the match scoring in the 8th, 34th, 46th and 62 minute. By half time, Railways had consolidated 11-0 lead over Bihar. Railways continued their dominance in the second half as well where they scored additional 13 goals to take the score further ahead to 24-0. FCI beat Haryana 4-1 at the Sr Nationals (A Division)

12 March 2014: Food Corporation of India (FCI) stunned Haryana by 4-1, Uttar Pradesh and Railways registered their 2nd wins while Bhopal started on winning note on the Day-2 of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) beign played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow.

Food Corporation of India made an impressive comeback on the second day after losing their first match against Railways yesterday and registered their very first win in the championship as they defeated Haryana by an inspiring 4-1 on board in Pool D. FCI was in no mood to settle down or give away goals to their opponent. The dominating attitude was visible from the very first half of the match as the Food Corporation of India led by 3-0 with Ganendrajit Ningomban, Sunil and Vikram striking a goal each in the 6th, 18th and 22nd minute of the first half, respectively. Hosts UP start Sr Hockey Nationals on Winning Note

11 March 2014: Hosts Uttar Pradesh opened their account on a winning note by defeating Odisha 5-2 on the opening day of the 4th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) played at Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow.

In other matches of the day, Jharkhand and Indian Railways defeated their respective opponents Bhopal and Food Corporation of India by the same scorelines of 3-0. While Tamil Nadu got walk over as Andaman & Nicobar failed to show up in Pool D.

Uttar Pradesh dominated the first half of the game by 2-0 with one field goal by Amir Khan in the 10th minute and Diwakar Ram converting a penalty corner in the 33rd minute of the game. Continue reading →

8 May 2013: Air India, Haryana, Punjab and Karnataka entered the semi-finals of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2013.

3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2013In the semi-finals to be played on Sunday 9 June 2013, last year’s runners-up Air India take on Haryana while Defending Champion Punjab will clash with Karnataka.

Last year’s runners-up Air India scored a hard-fought 5-4 win against Railways to win the first quarter-final match played at Major Dhyan Chand Polygrass Hockey Stadium, Pimpri in Pune today. Karnataka complete the Quarter-Final Line-up of Pune Hockey Nationals 2013

7 June 2013: Karnataka reached the quarter-finals of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship with a 4-2 win over Services Sports Control Board in their concluding league match of Pool C, the Nationals are underway in Pune.

Pune Hockey Nationals 2013 Day 10: Defending Champions Punjab, Manipur and Jharkhand in Quarters

6 June 2013: Defending champions Punjab along with Manipur and Jharkhand has entered the Quarter-Finals of the 3rd Hockey India Senior Men National Championship 2013 being played in Pune. Chandigarh, Railways, Haryana and Air India are the other teams who have already qualified for the Quarter-finals.

Riding on form of former Indian captain Deepak Thakur, who scored 5 goals, Punjab defeated Delhi 9-2 in their last league match of Pool A to emerge pool toppers.

In addition to 5 goals of Deepak for unbeatable Punjab, Vikramjit Singh scored thrice while Davinder Pal Singh found the target once. Pawan Singh Chauhan and Avtar Singh Mann scored a goal each for Delhi to reduce the margin to 9-2.

In Pool C, Karnataka registered their third consecutive win, as they defeated Bihar 8-1. Karnataka scored through S K Uthappa (11 min), Nikkin Thimmaiah (22 min), S K Chingappa (29, 31 min), M K Muddappa (39 min), Vickram Kant (43 min), B S Bidappa (51 min) and M G Poonacha (52 min) while Bihar’s only reply came from Satnam Singh (56 min).
