HIL Auction on 17th Sept: No team from South India, 135 Indians and 142 Foriegners in Fray

Hockey India League (HIL) is conducting a fresh auction of players for the upcoming season of the League on September 17 at New Delhi. The six franchisee will bid for players from India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, England, South Africa, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Scotland, Malaysia, Japan and Korea to complete their teams.

Ranchi Rays has retained Indian Star defender Birendra Lakra for upcoming season of Hero Hockey India League 

This is going to be 4th season of HIL, but still there are no teams from South India, either of Chennai or Bangalore should have had a franchise in the league by now. In the interest of the game and for increasing its reach, hockey hotbeds like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu can not be ignored in important league like HIL, which has become one of the best league in world, however it is yet to spread its arms pan-India. Netherlands, Korea and Australia (Top 3 in FINTRO #HWL2015) on #RoadtoRio

The Netherlands women won the FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Final 2015 by defeating the Asian Champions Korea by 2-1 in the final at Dragons Hockey Club in Antwerp. In third place match, Australia defeated their trans-Tasmanian rivals New Zealand by 4-2 to qualify for Rio Olympics 2016.

#HWL2015 (W): India beat Japan to Keep themselves on #RoadtoRio

Riding on Rani’s goal and Savita’s goalkeeping India registered a narrow yet important win over higher ranked team Japan to claim the 5th position in the FINTRO World Hockey League Semi-Final 2015 (Women).

Thanks to Rani Rampal’s superb goal in the 13th minute and inform Goalie Savita Punia helped them not only register the win but even keep themselves in contention for the RIO Olympics 2016. After the winners of continental cups namely, European, Oceania and Pan-American are known, it could be confirmed if India will qualify for Olympics or not. The Netherlands and Korea reached the women’s competition final of the FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Finals in Antwerp after winning semi-final against Australia and New Zealand respectively.

Goals from Carlien van den Heuvel, Maartje Paumen, Ginela Zerbo, Lidewij Welten and Willemijn Bos helped the Netherlands defeat Australia to book their place in the final.   • Antwerp’s ‘Final Four’ set to do battle for three guaranteed places at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands and Korea sealed their places in the final four on a baking hot, drama-filled women’s quarter-final day at the FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Final 2015 in Antwerp.

They overcame the respective challenges of Italy by 2-0, Japan by 5-1, India by 7-0 and host nation Belgium by 3-0 in shoot-out after 2-2 draw in full-time. The four winners of quarter-final stage has reached semi-finals (to be played on Thursday, 2nd July) dand booked their tickets to the prestigious end of year Hockey World League Finals that will be played in Argentina. They will be joined in that event by Great Britain, China, Germany and Argentina, who all achieved qualification by securing top four finishes at the recent Hockey World League Semi-Final event in Valencia.
