Ireland Men’s record caps holder Eugene Magee has unfortunately had to withdraw from Ireland’s World League Semi-Final squad announced last Friday. Magee pulled up in the last training session of last week’s camp with a knee complaint.

Following an MRI scan of his knee, Magee was seen by two specialists on Friday at the Sports Surgery Clinic in Santry, Dublin. The scan showed some cartilage damage at the front of his knee, which initially requires two full weeks of rest , followed by a review to see if further treatment is necessary. The experienced Chris Cargo of Reading Hockey Club in England has been called up to the squad as Magee’s replacement. Continue reading →
Irish Men’s Coach Andrew Meredith has named his squad for the upcoming Rabobank World League Semi-Finals in Rotterdam from the 13th-23rd June 2013. Meredith has selected the 18 from an original training panel of 30 after two recent intensive training camps and a two-match test series against Germany in Mannheim which saw the Green Machine tie the series 1-1 with the reigning Olympic Champions.
Meredith’s selection sees the return of experienced duo Timmy Cockram and Peter Caruth who missed the Green Machine’s outing at World League 2. The squad also includes a number of players who have excelled in the recent Irish Hockey League with Peter Brown, Kyle Good and Jonathan Bell in particular all rewarded for putting in stellar performances in Irish Hockey’s premier domestic tournament this season. Electric Ireland Irish Women’s Coach Darren Smith has named a strong squad for summer training camps and upcoming test matches vs. Scotland & South Africa prior to the squads participation in TriFinance EuroHockey Championships 2013 from August 17th – 25th in Belgium.
The Irish coach has selected his panel following extensive review of the Electric Ireland Irish Senior Squad International performances in 2012 & recently in Valencia at World League 2 as well as throughout this seasons hectic Irish Hockey League Schedule.
Smith’s squad includes some new and returning faces with Lizzie Colvin, Deirdre Duke and Gillian Pinder all returning to the squad following education commitments abroad while uncapped UCD midfielder Emily Beatty joins up with the Green Army officially for the first time. Continue reading →
Germany 5 (Seekers, Rurher, Deeke, Grambusch, Windfeder) beat Ireland 2 (Watt, Good)
In the second of the the two test series Germany defeated Ireland by 5-2 in Mannheim to level the series, as Ireland had stunned the Olympic Champions in first test by 2-0. Three German goals in a 4 minute spell either side of half time was the difference between the sides. Germany took an early lead when they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 11m with Seekers converting from the spot. Continue reading →
Ireland 3 (Sothern, Cargo, O’Donohue) beat Germany 2 (Rurher, Fluchs)
Andrew Meredith’s Irish Men’s team have beaten reigning Olympic Champions Germany 3-2 in Heilbronn this afternoon in an International test match in front of almost 3,000 spectators. Ireland took the lead in the 4 th minute when Pembroke Wanderers man Alan Sothern found the net.
