India and Malaysia play QFs at Pool Toppers in HWL 2015 (Women) in New Delhi

India and Malaysia kept perfect winning records intact and ended their last matches of the pool phase with a 6-0 and 5-0 win over Thailand and Singapore respectively in the Hero FIH Hockey World League Round 2 (Women) today. The table toppers of Pool A, India started their campaign on a high defeating Ghana and Poland in the previous matches, while Malaysia defeated Kazakhstan and Russia to top Pool B.

Earlier in the day, Kazakhstan edged past Russia by 3-2 and Poland beat Ghana 4-0 to finish 2nd in their respectively pools. 2nd Win for India in FIH Women Hockey League Round 2 in New Delhi

Marching ahead in the league, India registered their second consecutive win in FIH Hockey World League Round 2 (Women) by defeating Poland 2- 0 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Delhi, today. Earlier in the evening, Thailand defeated Ghana by 3-1 in another Pool A match. Malaysia defeated Russia 3-0 to register 2nd consecutive win, while Kazakhstan defeated Singapore by 4-0 in their pool match.

As Soundarya Yendala came to play today against Poland, she completed her 100th appearance for the Indian National team. Coming from a humble background, she worked her way up to the top through her hard work and perseverance. Today she is an important player in the Indian squad. On her 100th appearance, an excited Soundarya said, “It is a great honour to represent the country and to be able to do it for 100 times is an incredible feeling. Vandana Scored 4 as India Outclass Ghana by 13-0 in FIH World League 2 in Delhi

Hosts India dominated their first match of the FIH Hockey World League Round 2 (Women) against Ghana and recorded a thumping 13-0 victory as forward Vandana Katariya scored 4 goals. Earlier in the day, Poland defeated Thailand by 4-1 in another Pool B game, while Malaysia and Russia scored 8-0 and 7-0 victories over Kazakhstan and Singapore respectively in Pool A.

India kept the pressure on Ghana from the moment the game started. It was Deepika’s pass to Vandana Katariya at the D which was cleverly deflected by the latter into the nets, giving India the first goal in the eighth minute. Next minute India was again in the D of Ghana and this time it was Monika who got a clean pass in the D, slapped the ball into the nets, doubling the lead for the team. Ghana looking at opening their account won a penalty corner the very next minute but the fumble made them loose the opportunity to close the goal gap. With a chance to take the lead further, seconds left for the end of the first quarter India got a penalty corner to their name. But unfortunately the ball was hit wide of the left goal post and the first quarter ended with India leading 2-0. Continue reading →

Hosts India and other teams are ready for FIH World League 2 in New Delhi

High on confidence host India’s Women Hockey Team was seen practicing before FIH Hockey World League Round 2 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, to be held from March 7-14 in the capital city. Other participating teams were also seen brushing their preparations for the tournament.

Malaysia, placed in Pool B will take on Kazakhstan in the opening match of the league scheduled for 7 March 2015, India, placed in Pool A is all geared up to lock horns with Ghana in the last match opening day with an aim to outwit the opponents and hoping to make an impact in front of the home fans. Clash between Pool A teams, Thailand and Poland in the third match and Russia and Singapore in the second match will complete the day.

All of the teams will not only play to seal their positions in the finals but will also confirm their way for a safe passage through to the FIH Hockey World League Round 3 in order to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. With an aim to begin their campaign in the League with a win, the teams are making significant efforts to put their line-up and field plan in place. The players seemed focus and determined for their respective encounters and polished their skills undergoing training to show a valiant game of hockey in the much awaited FIH Hockey Word League Round 2. A late goal from Claire Verhage cancelled out a lead that Germany held for the majority of a pulsating match, with Netherlands keeper Adinda Alberts making three saves in the shoot-out to give the Netherlands the title and break the hearts of the host nation in the process.
