118th edition of the Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament, the oldest hockey tournament in world, is being played at Sports Authority of India, Kolkata since October 28th. The Quarter Final League stage of the tournament will start from tomorrow (7 November 2013).
Four teams including defending champions Indian Oil, Air India, Army XI and ONGC have been seeded directly into the Quarter Final league stage. The qualifying matches for Quarter Finals league were completed today.
Today, CAG defeated South Central Railway 4-2 to become the 4th qualifying team for the Quarter Final League stage, while Northern Railways defeated Young Society by 7-1. Yesterday, ERSA and Central Railways won their respective matches against Canara Bank (4-3) and CESC Sporting Club (4-3) respectively to qualify for QF League stage of the 2013 edition of Beighton Cup Hockey Tournament. Jalandhar, Oct 5: The 30th edition of the prestigious IndianOil SERVO Surjit Hockey Tournament will be played from October 9 at the Olympian Surjit Singh polytan turf Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park. A total of 16 teams will be participating in the tournament which offers a total of Rs. 7,75,000/- as prize money.

The tournament is organized every year by the Surjit Hockey Society to keep the name of Ex-Olympian Sardar Surjit Singh Randhawa alive who lost his life in a fatal car accident near Jalandhar on January 7th, 1984, while fighting hard for up-liftment of the National Game of Hockey in our Country. Air India won the 28th Indian Oil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament for the first time by beating the defending champions Indian Oil by 4-2 at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Jalandhar. The winners were presented with cash prize of 2.50 Lakh, a Trophy and One quintal Almonds where as Runners up were given 1.50 Lakhs and Trophy. Affan Yousuf of Indian Oil Mumbai got a gold medal for the best player of the tournament. Indian Oil were leading by 1-0 at half time with the lone goal of half by Dharamvir Singh. But Air India equalized through Joga Singh in 45th Minute, look lead through Rahul Shilpkar’s goal in PC (49th Minute). Indian Oil’s Affan Yousuf equalized the scores again (2-2) through PC in 52nd Minute. Rahul Shilpkar converted two more PCs (55th and 67th Minute) to seal in the game and clinch the title for Air India.
