Army XI and IOCL March into Surjit Hockey 2013 Semi Finals

Jalandhar, October 14 : Army-XI and IndianOil, Mumbai entered the semi finals of the 30th IndianOil Surjit Hockey Tournament 2013 being played at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park here today.

Army-XI defeated Mumbai XI 5-2 in their 2nd outing to top the Pool-C with 6 points. With the help of hat-trick from Deepak Thakur, the defending champions IOCL beat Indian Air Force 5-2 to top the Pool-A with 6 points from two wins from as many matches. Army and IOCL will play in the first Semi Final on 17th October.

The Armymen scored two goals in quick succession through Milan Muthappa to lead 2-0. Vishva Thakur added another goal for Army in 26th minute on their first penalty corner. Continue reading →

BPCL and IOC Register Wins in Surjit Hockey Tournament 2013

Jalandhar Oct 13 : Riding on Gurpreet Singh’s Hat-trick Bharat Petroleum defeated Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd while Indian Oil defeated Punjab Police in the 30th IndianOil Surjit Hockey Tournament at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park here.

In the first match of the day, runners-up of last edition BPCL defeated PSPCL by 6-1 in Pool ‘D’ match whereas defending champions IndianOil beat Punjab Police by 3-1 in Pool ‘A’, in the mean while, Punjab XI, Pakstani Women hockey team arrived in Jalandhar today, who will play their Indian counterpart Punjab XI (India) in a three test match series on 14, 15 and 17 October during the tournament. Indian Oil Won 88th MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup 2013

Chennai, 22 September 2013: Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL) defeated Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) 6-4 to win the 88th MCC Murugappa Hockey Tournament at Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium in Egmore, Chennai.

In the final between IOCL and IOB, the first half saw the co-champions of last edition, stacking up goals. After the half-time break, Indian Overseas Bank fought back to score 4 goals. 88th MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament Started

12 Sept, 2013: The 88th MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup Hockey Tournament got underway today at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Egmore, Chennai, with Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) defeating South Central Railways (SCR) and Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) respectively.

Tomorrow (13th September) IOCL will take on CAG at 2:15 PM in Pool A game, Air India face Indian Bank in Pool B game at 4:00PM and the day concludes with Army XI vs IOB game in Pool A at 5:45PM under floodlights.

IOB defeated SCR 6-3 in the first match of the tournament with help of a brace each from V Shanmugam and Vinod Rayaer and a goal each from Adam Sinclair and MK Muddappa, while SCR scored via Anmol Minz, Manjeet Kullu and Suresh Toppo. Gurpreet Singh found target twice while Amar Aiyamma added one more to make it 3-0 for BPCL against SAIL in the opening game of Pool B.
