India loses to South Africa 3-4

India went down fighting 3-4 to South Africa in its last friendly in the run-up to the Tri-Nation at La Albericia, the capital city of Cantabria, today.

The goal scorers for India were Danish Mujtaba, Sandeep Singh and SK Uthappa while Clinton Panther, Thoton McDade, Llyod Norris-Jones and Justin Reid Ross were on target for South Africa.

Clinton Panther put South Africa ahead in the 9th minute, scoring a field goal. Thoton McDade scored another goal for his team in the 17th minute. India  reduced the margin four minutes later with the field goal scored by forward Danish Mujtaba.

Going into the second half India created good moves penetrating in the circle and leveled 2-2 in the 47th minute through a penalty corner converted by Sandeep Singh. However three minutes later Llyod Norris- Jones put South Africa ahead. India fought back strongly and equalized seven minutes later through a field goal by SK Uthappa. Continue reading →

India beat South Africa 6-5 in the third test

India defeated South Africa 6-5 in a thrilling third test at La Albericia, the capital city of Cantabria, on Sunday night.

Strikers Shivendra Singh (13th, 38th minutes), Dharamvir Singh (19th, 21 st minute), Tushar Khandker (36 th minute) and penalty corner specialist V.R. Raghunath (penalty stroke 53 rd minute) were on target for India.

The goal-scorers for South Africa were Austin Smith (penalty stroke 17th, penalty corner 69th), Tim Drummond (42nd), Ian Haley (48th) and Justin Ried Ross (penalty corner 67th).

Shivendra put India ahead in the 13th minute, scoring a field goal. South Africa – who qualified for the London Olympics winning the last qualifier at Kakamigahara in Japan – equalised four minutes later through Smith, who converted a penalty stroke. Continue reading →

India manage to defeat South Africa 6-5, after Leading 5-1

South Africa lost narrowly (6-5) to India which saw their spirited fight back in Second Half after trailing 3-1 at Half Time and 5-1 till 43rd minute of a 11-goal thriller game in their first of three unofficial Tests in Santander, Spain.

The Team India opened accounts in the 12th minute of the game though South Africa was better in possession in the opening. South Africans were back in the game once as they started attacking in search for an equalizer. 5 Minutes after India’s goal, Indian Goalkeeper and Captain Bharat Chetri earned yellow card for himself and a penalty stroke for South Africa with hard tackle on Marvin Harper, which Lloyd Madsen converted easily to level the scores.

India’s Dharamvir Singh scored two goals in quick succession on counters after turn overs in mid-field to earn 3-1 lead for India before the lemon break. Continue reading →
