Shea McAleese, the Black Sticks hockey player, feels FIH (International Hockey Federation) has got the structure of Hockey tournaments wrong. Double Olympian McAleese, who has represented New Zealand in 2008 and 2012 Olympics, feels the current process of Olympic qualification is bizarre and wrong.

Shea McAleese, nicknamed Buddha, says our [Black Sticks] fate is in our hands but what about Ireland? They were fantastic at Hockey World League Semi-Finals (WL3), yet hope that Black Sticks lose to Australia so that they qualify for Rio. Similar situation is for India women (refer embedded graphics at the end of this article)

Ireland have done all they can to secure their spot at the Rio Olympics with a polished 4-1 victory over world number 12 Malaysia today in 5th place play-off match at FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Final 2015 in Antwerp, Belgium. Goals from Good, Caruth, Sothern and Darling put the game out of reach of a pacey Malaysian side that struggled to take their chances.

A stunning attacking display from Bobby Crutchley’s Great Britain team blew India away as five different players helped themselves to goals in a 5-1 win. The win gave GB third place in the FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Final 2015 in Antwerp, Belgium and confirmed a place in both the World League Final and at the Rio Olympics.

The Netherlands women won the FINTRO Hockey World League Semi-Final 2015 by defeating the Asian Champions Korea by 2-1 in the final at Dragons Hockey Club in Antwerp. In third place match, Australia defeated their trans-Tasmanian rivals New Zealand by 4-2 to qualify for Rio Olympics 2016.
