Hockey India confirms Mariamma Koshy as President

NEW DELHI, September 17, 2012: Hockey India today confirmed Mrs. Mariamma Koshy as its President. The decision was taken under rule 4(f) of Hockey India Rules and Regulations during its 15th Executive Board meeting held here on Monday.

The 63-year- old Mrs. Mariamma Koshy was elected as Vice-President of Hockey India on August 5, 2010 and held the Interim President’s position from November 2010. A former State-level player and centre-forward, Mrs. Mariamma Koshy has been associated with hockey administration since 1994 and is also Hockey Kerala’s Senior Vice-President.

Hockey India Senior Nationals in Bangalore and Junior in Lucknow

Hockey India Senior (Men’s) Hockey Championship – 2012 will be played in Bangalore from 23rd September to 2nd October 2012, while Junior’s Championship will start on 1st September in Lucknow.

27 teams from across the country will participate in 2nd Hockey India Junior (Men’s) Hockey Championship, including defending champions Haryana, runners-up Odisha and third-place holders Punjab. The 9 day event will start on September 1, at the Major Dhyan Chand Astro Turf Stadium at the Guru Govind Singh Sports College in Lucknow.

A total of 36 teams, with a new entrant Border Security Forces, will participate in 2nd Hockey India Senior (Men’s) Hockey Championship, which will be played at Bangalore Hockey Stadium (Aka Shanti Nagar Hockey Stadium) and MEG Astro Turf. Continue reading →
