Uthappa’s Double Strike help India in victory over New Zealand ‘A’

Riding on double strike by SK Uthappa, the India Men Hockey team managed to win against New Zealand A in the second game of the New Zealand Tour. In the 2nd practice match against New Zealand A, India won by 2-1, while in the 1st match scoreline was 3-1, with goals coming from three different players (Akashdeep Singh, Ramandeep Singh and Nikkin Thimmaiah).

The first quarter saw both the teams going on the attack on each other’s defending zones. But in the 5th minute, Indian forwards from Karnataka SV Sunil, Nikkin Thimmaiah and SK Uthappa combined well to score. Sunil entered the D and passed the ball to Nikkin and he sent the ball to SK Uthappa, who brilliantly sent the ball in the nets giving no chance to the opponent’s goalkeeper to react. India continued its pressure and maintained good ball possession, keeping the opponents defence busy all through. But with no further goals added, the quarter ended 1-0 in India’s favour. India Start New Zealand Tour on Winning Note

The India Men Hockey team defeated New Zealand A by 3-1 to start their New Zealand tour on winning note in Auckland. India will be playing their 2nd practice match against New Zealand ‘A’ tomorrow at 0530 AM IST, i.e. 1300 in local time, followed by 4 test matches against New Zealand national team.

The India Men Hockey team is all set to start their New Zealand tour with the match against New Zealand A team, which is scheduled to be played on 2nd October in early morning at 05:30 IST i.e. 13:00 in local time.

The 32nd edition of the Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament, will be held in Jalandhar Olympian Surjit Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Burlton Park from October 30 to November 5. And the 2nd edition of the Bengaluru Cup will be organized by Hockey Karnataka from 10th-19th October at KSHA Hockey Stadium in Bangalore.
