Waves Group to take up Delhi franchise of Hockey India League

NEW DELHI, September 17: Hockey India today announced that Wave Group under the stewardship of Gurdeep Singh ‘Ponty’ Chadha, would own the Delhi franchise in the Hockey India League and make its maiden foray in the world of sports.

Patel-Uniexcel Group to forge strong team as Hockey India League’s Ranchi franchise

NEW DELHI, Sept 14: Hockey India League today announced that the Ranchi franchise would be taken up by the Patel-Uniexcel Group, making it the third of the six franchisees who will compete in the prestigious event to be held every year from January 2013. Sahara India and Jaypee Group are the franchisees for Lucknow and Punjab.

Indian Players’ List for Hockey India League Players Auction

90 of India’s best players to be part of Hockey India League Players’ Auction 

NEW DELHI, September 12: All 16 members of the Indian team, which competed in the Olympic Games in London earlier this year, are among the 90 domestic players who have signed up for the Hockey India League Players Auction to be held next month in the run up to the prestigious six-team Hockey India League in January 2013.

Sohail Abbas among 14 Pakistan stars to sign up for Hockey India League auction

NEW DELHI, September 9, 2012: The vastly experienced Sohail Abbas is among 14 Pakistan hockey stars who have signed up for the inaugural Hockey India League to be held from January 5 to February 3 next year. Rated among the world’s best drag-flick exponents, Sohail Abbas has scored the most international goals in the history of hockey with 349 goals.

Jaiprakash Associates comes on board as Hockey India League franchise

NEW DELHI, August 1: Hockey India today announced Jaiprakash Associates Ltd (JAL) as one of the six franchises who will compete in the inaugural Hockey India League (HIL) from January 5 to February 13 2013. Jaiprakash Associates will be the owner of the Punjab-based team.

“We are delighted that Jaypee Associates will be one of the six franchises that will launch the Hockey India League,” Hockey India Secretary-General and HIL Chairman Dr. Narinder Batra said. “Anyone who has been to Jaypee Sports City in Greater Noida will know the enormous passion for sports that JAL and its subsidiary JPSI brings to the table. We are pleased that JAL will work towards the promotion of hockey.”

Dr Batra said the coming of acknowledged patrons of Indian sport into the HIL fold is further confirmation of Hockey India’s determination to make the tournament an unqualified success. “When we have such groups as Sahara India and JAL as the first two HIL franchises, we not only feel encouraged that Indian hockey will get a fillip but also believe players from around the world will love competing in the tournament,” he said.
