India won Silver and Hearts in London, FIH Clarifies decision #HCT2016

In a dramatic end to a successful tournament, India won silver medal and hearts of hockey fans throughout. India lost in the shootout to Australia after ending the game 0-0 at regulation time in their maiden appearance in the final of Hockey Champions Trophy 2016 in London. Earlier in the day, Germany edged past Great Britain to win the bronze medal thanks to a solitary strike from tournament top scorer Marco Miltkau.

India entered the tournament as underdogs and using tournament for preparations of Rio Olympics and started on high note with holding Olympic Germany for 3-3 draw and defeated hosts Great Britain by 2-1 for first time in last 4 decade at their home soil. India had heart break when they lost to Belgium by 2-1 and then came back in tournament with win against Korea by 2-1 and commendable performance against Australia in their last pool game (2-4). Rani: The Spectacular Hockey Goal Scorer from Shahabad

In June 2001, a seven-year old daughter of a cart-puller from Shahabad Markanda (Haryana) picked up Hockey Stick, and debuted for India in 2008 Olympic Qualifiers in Russia  at the age of just 14.

V Baskaran appointed as Coach of the Indian Senior Men Hockey Team

New Delhi, 20 November 2013: Padmashri Olympic Gold Medalist V Baskaran has been appointed as Coach of the Indian Senior Men Hockey Team. He will work under the recently appointed Chief Coach Terry Walsh.

Baskaran joined the training camp of the senior men hockey team at SAI Centre, Bhopal for preparations of the FIH World League Finals in Delhi in January 2014 and the FIH World Cup to be held in The Netherlands next year.

Dr. Narinder Batra Secretary General, Hockey India said “Mr. Baskaran will form an integral part of the coaching staff headed by Mr. Terry Walsh. I am sure his valuable experience will help the Indian team in its 2014 World Cup and help take Indian hockey to new heights”. Continue reading →

Women’s Hockey World League Semi-Final Groups Confirmed, India will play at Rotterdam

Following the last of the women’s Hockey World League Round 2 tournaments which concluded  yesterday in Rio (Brazil), the FIH today announced the line-ups for the two women’s Hockey World League Semi-Final tournaments to be held in Rotterdam and London in June.

The Rabobank Hockey World League Semi-Final tournament in Rotterdam will be held from June 13-23 in conjunction with the men’s Rabobank Hockey World League Semi-Final tournament.  Four teams (Netherlands, New Zealand, Germany, and Korea,) were already qualified for the event based on their FIH World Ranking and will be joined by four teams (Japan, India, Belgium and Chile) that qualified through the earlier rounds of the Hockey World League.

 

The Dutch enter the tournament as the top-ranked team in the FIH World Ranking. New Zealand, Germany, and Korea  were also automatically qualified for the Semi-Finals thanks to their top-eight spot in the FIH World Ranking.
