Ashley Jackson lead Ranchi Rays’ revenge win over Kalinga Lancers

Ranchi Rays’ Captain Ashley Jackson lead from front to beat Kalinga Lancers by 4-0 at Ranchi in the Hero Hockey India League 2015. The English drag flicker specialist, aka David Beckham of Hockey, scored first hattrick of the season in the revenge of their defeat at Bhubaneswar by 6-3 in the opening game.

A mammoth effort by the men in red and a momentous show by Captain Ashley Jackson helps Ranchi Rays move to the second place in the points table. With today’s hattrick Ashley Jackson also became the highest goal scorer of the seaon with six goals to his personal tally.

The first quarter of the match saw both Ranchi Rays and Kalinga Lancers playing an attacking game from the very beginning of the match as the circle penetration was attempted frequently by both the sides. Where, Kalinga Lancers were awarded three consecutive penalty corners within the first five minutes of the game itself. They failed to convert any and strongly felt the absence of the young penalty corner specialist Gurjinder Singh. It was the home team Ranchi Rays which opened the account when Captain Ashley Jackson made no mistake in converting it into a goal in the 11th minute, helping the team take the lead by 1-0 in the match. It was Delhi Waveriders who scored the maiden goal in the first quarter and led the game 1-0 till the end of the third quarter. Ranchi Rays looking for revenge against Kalinga Lancers at Ranchi

Ranchi Rays are back at their home, as they host Kalinga Lancers and looking to revenge their defeat in opener of the third Hero Hockey India League 2015. The two teams will each other at Astroturf Hockey Stadium, Ranchi tomorrow (6th Feb) at 1900HRS. In the inaugural match of the season, Kalinga Lancers had defeated Ranchi Rays by 6-3.

Uttar Pradesh Wizards beat Jaypee Punjab Warriors by 2-1 in Lucknow

After a successful run of four wins and one draw, table-toppers Jaypee Punjab Warriors tasted their first defeat, as Uttar Pradesh Wizards edged past them by 2-1 in 15th match of Hero Hockey India League 2015 at Dhyan Chand Sports College in Lucknow. It was VR Raghunath and Ramandeep Singh who stood tall and scored for their team whereas Jaypee Punjab Warriors’ captain Jamie Dwyer scored to reduce the deficit.

In the first quarter, host team Uttar Pradesh Wizards outplayed the visitors with their spirited performance and attacking moves, which stunned the opponents’ camp. Seven minutes into the game, UP Wizards drew first blood when they counter-attacked on Jaypee Punjab Warriors’ half and earned a penalty corner. Penalty corner specialist VR Raghunath converted it with a well placed flick beating Jaap Stockmann to score the first goal of the match. With this early lead, the home team attacked more aggressively and maintained the pressure on Jaypee Punjab Warriors. Their aggression paid again when they scored their second goal in the 9th minute. During their counter charge, forward player Ramandeep Singh received the ball in the opponents D and without giving any time to react to the defenders and custodian Stockmann, he hit the ball straight on the target taking the score to 2-0.
