Continuing their impressive run in the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL), Delhi Waveriders defeated hosts Uttar Pradesh Wizards 4-3 in a high-scoring thrilling league match to extend their lead at the top of the points table at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium in Lucknow today.

The match was expected to a be an exciting affair, especially after the two teams finished 1-1 in their previous encounter in New Delhi and it turned out to be one as it rained goals throughout the entire 70 minutes, much to the delight of the spectators.
The Sardar Singh-led Delhi Waveriders outfit, which finished runners-up in the inaugural HHIL last year, showed exactly why they were considered as one of the pre-tournament favorites and pumped in as many as four goals in the opening 20 minutes to stun Uttar Pradesh Wizards and their home fans. The win consolidated Jaypee Punjab Warriors position to second in the standings with 23 points from six outings ahead of last year’s runners-up Delhi Waveriders, who have so far garnered 29 points from eight matches and are presently atop the leaderboard.
Dabur Mumbai Magicians, on the other hand, are at the bottom of the table with just six points from as many matches.
Jaypee Punjab Warriors took the early lead through a field goal by SV Sunil in the third minute of the match.

Ranchi Rhinos started the match as favourites and took the lead in the sixth minute of the match through Englishman Ashley Jackson’s strike on first penalty corner of Rhinos as he scored his third goal of the tournament.
Kalinga Lancers had a few share of attacks in the first quarter but the moves were not incisive to create any trouble for Ranchi Rhinos defense.

After a relatively quiet start, the match gathered pace in the second half as both the teams displayed fine exhibition of hockey.
But the match witnessed a sedate start and was devoid of any real action on the turf in the first quarter as the two teams took time to settle down.

It was a match of equals, throughout the entire 70 minutes both the teams struggled to get clear inroads into the rival citadel and had to be satisfied with two points apiece.
After a relatively quiet and actionless first quarter, Delhi Waveriders drew the first blood in the 23rd minute. An unmarked Yuvraj Walmiki pushed the ball home from close range after being set up by Simon Child’s fine work from the right flank and along the goal-line.

The defending champions Ranchi Rhinos were held for draw by a much improved and spirited Dabur Mumbai Magicians in a league match of the second edition of Hero Hockey India League (HHIL) at the Astroturf Hockey Stadium in Ranchi today.

It took the Ranchi Rhinos 52 minutes to open the scoring through Justin Reid Ross before Dabur Mumbai Magicians equalized six minutes later through Trent Mitton (58th minute) to split the points as their Irish Goalkeeper David Harte pulled out a man-of-the-match performance including saving a penalty stroke.
Dabur Mumbai Magicians made a promising start and dominated the early share of possession.
